Thanks for the article, Janine! Great read. It's certainly an interesting mechanic, if one which is a rather clumsy representation of actual physical contact. But when handled well I think it can work - I liked being able to make a fuss of my Pokémon when they'd done well or been through a tough battle. It just adds that little touch of extra personality to the whole thing.
People keep talking about "all the SF V coverage" but I don't feel like there's been that much. They played maybe 10-20 minutes on UPF, and have done a QL now. I guess it's just one of those things where people notice time devoted a game they aren't interested in more. Though I'll add that just how much they talked about SF IV back when it launched was specifically what got me into that game.
@dougfunk15 I'd say they covered the paucity of content fairly well in the review text. They're only waiting on the score to make sure they've tested out both aspects you mentioned. I can't imagine someone on the fence would base their purchasing decision on the number at the top of the page rather than reading the full review to find out in more detail whether this caters to what they're looking for.
Plus, even if someone's unsure, they can just wait a week for the score to arrive before deciding whether or not to buy in. It's not as though people have to commit to buying it day one. After all, GB can't know whether people would be satisfied with that $60 purchase if they don't know whether those people would have a stable online experience on launch servers.
EDIT: Would y'all living in America put MK as the mass-market casual game everyone plays if they only play one fighting game? Here I'd definitely say from experience that it's Tekken. People with seemingly no interest in other fighting games all still go for Tekken. MK definitely has stepped up a little bit to where it's maybe at that second tier of general interest with the likes of Soul Calibur, but Tekken still stands out.
Oh, and congrats to you and your new wife Jeff! Much love.
Definitely sensible to wait and see how the online pans out post-release before dropping a score. But I'm glad to hear that the general feeling on the game itself has been very positive. Let's just hope that once things are fully live they actually work well. I'm very excited to get in either way, it's going to be fun going from the ground up once again with a brand-new Street Fighter experience.
I also appreciate the R. Mika love. Girl's got that lucha styyyyle.
Scott Manley is an incredible moniker. Good thing he has an incredible hat (and voice) to boot. Thanks for stopping by and doing some Kerbal-saving, Scott! This was a great idea.
Been thinking about going back through the Persona 4 Endurance Run again. I've watched it through twice, did start a third time and got about 40 episodes deep but it's been a while so I might go from the beginning once more. Still such a wonderful time.
I'm actually pretty happy with this. I don't want them to rush in to Destiny 2, and I think if it came out this year I'd have the same problem as I did with Taken King which is that there are too many other games I want to play around it for me to invest all that time into a single one.
Shower gel all the way. You soap people are crazy. Maybe that's more of a US thing because I know very few people (aside perhaps of the older generation) who don't use some form of gel/mousse thing. Just put a bit on your hand and it lathers up well.
Heck, I don't even like using a bar of soap for hand washing. Definitely prefer a "liquid soap" for that too: easier, smells better, and doesn't require a holder to prevent it from sliding all over the worktop.
I love that you're also doing these chats with the guest contributors, @austin_walker. One of my favourite things about Giant Bomb is knowing the personalities behind the content - so, as well as having these articles to hopefully introduce me to some new writers that I might love, it's good to have these as a way to "get to know" the person behind each article a little bit more.
