I'm really interested in the potential disconnect a game like The Division has with "spongy" enemies because they are human. In Destiny there are a ton of one-shottable foes but it also seems okay to have enemies that eat up a bunch of ammo because they are crazy aliens. When you see a human also doing that, it can feel super weird. There's definitely something interesting to be explored there.
On cards like Black Lotus, thought it'd be worth noting that Magic's two "biggest card pool" formats are Vintage and Legacy. Both allow pretty much any card ever printed, with just a few notable exceptions. As a general rule, Vintage bans some and restricts others to one copy per deck (instead of the usual limit of four). Legacy has no restrictions, only bans. Black Lotus, as the example card, is restricted to one copy in Vintage but banned in Legacy. It's valuable partly due to rarity but also because it is such an iconic and powerful card. Really more of a collector's item than one you're going to bust out and play.
Congratulations, @turboman! As someone who's been on GB since day one (well, day two) and watches almost everything going I still wouldn't miss a Best of Giant Bomb. They're great for people with less time or as a way to get someone into the site too. Thanks for all your hard work so far and it's super rad that the guys found a way to get you officially involved with them.
This being on the site is such a good thing! Definitely worthwhile, I go back and watch these all the time - sometimes when I just want ten minutes of unfiltered joy I'll click a random one and just go.
Ever since the game launched I've been waiting for this moment. It pretty much had to happen eventually, both to allow them to keep coming up with new ideas that can actually impact the game without just breaking everything, and also so that the sheer mountain of cards doesn't completely overwhelm new players. Definitely the right move and now feels about the time to me.
I totally agree with Austin's point towards the end however - taking away the old cards from sale seems completely crazy to me, and doubly so for the adventures. They're still going to be playable in the other format. I think it would be great if they started selling those packs for maybe half (or less) their original cost once they're out of the Standard rotation.
Would be a real shame to lose the Adventures, too. Those things are super unique and fun.
Great stuff, glad you're enjoying the game! I've just gone back and am doing a slow, easy-going playthrough in preparation for the Dark Souls III. It's still such a wonderful world to be in, whether it's your first time or a familiar sight.
Those torch hollows are deadly though... their attacks stagger you so quickly.
