I never got into starcraft as RTS where he who clicks fast enough wins don't interest me. Give me turn based where I can think for the win. However those cut scenes are DOPE!! Civilization take note. the story here seems awesome I may have to check this out.
While StarCraft is certainly still very fast-paced, they've made a lot of steps over the course of SCII's lifespan to minimise a lot of the "APM wins games" stuff. That said, it's always been more a game about decision-making and strategy more than speed of execution - you just have to make those decisions quickly.
This game came out at such a weird time. I bought it and am very eager to get to it, but finding time amongst Fallout 4 and Black Ops III (and still finishing MGS V bits and bobs off) is going to be tough. I'm secretly very excited though; I realised that because I've fallen away from it since Heart of the Swarm released that it could catch me somewhat off-guard when I jump back in and remind me why I loved it.
It's been so long, I almost forgot about Jar Time! These more informal chats are always fun to watch, nice to have a somewhat behind-the-scenes look at things too which this kinda also serves as.
Or what was that thing where they had like a mini event of playing Street Fighter (?) or Tekken (?) where they hired a place out and had people over for a mini tournament or something with booze and pizza.
Just realised today that Fallout 3 and MGS4 also released right next to one another - the "War Never Changes" vs. "War Has Changed" debate rages on once more!
I think you hit the nail on the head with your discussion of the moves, Alex. I remember when I used to spend ages creating characters in those old games - whenever a move had 5 different animations, I always opted for the one with the most over-the-top, bouncy animation because it looked cool. It feels as though they've leant hard into the more "realistic" animations, which don't seem nearly as impactful when translated to a game.
This is a great review and a fantastic example of how learning about the people writing reviews can make them more valuable. I know what Jeff likes and doesn't like about the series, so I can understand why he has the gripes that he does.
Personally I loved AW and do miss the boost-strafe, but I'll absolutely take the other movement options that BO3 offers over having the boost-strafe if that's the choice. Also I'm not one who's really fussed about the one-hit knife, but then again I pretty much never use the knife myself and it's been a consistent complaint from the core fanbase for years.
Shame that the campaign sounds like it doesn't live up to the older games, but I'm very excited for the multiplayer and I know I'll have at least some fun playing the Zombies mode with friends.
