I really should get back to Beyond Earth. I did actually like it quite a bit, but I don't think I really had the time to deep-dive into a Civ campaign the way I did when Civ V was the hot new game in town. It's such a time commitment to get through one of these - which seems weird to say given how long most games are, but I feel it's especially true in the case of Civilization because I always want to play them in day-long chunks rather than a couple of hours each night. Feels as though they work best that way.
I think initially I got carried away with the #TeamEmily hype - but rewatching this series the past few days I am fully #TeamEmily all the way. Everything she says and does is great.
I actually don't think I hate any of the characters in this by the end, they all have some redeeming features. Even Jess went up a tad in my estimate, Ashley got a ton of bonus points for that ghost hashtag joke, and Josh's breakdown scene makes up for him being a general ass the rest of the time.
This kinda weird "behind the scenes" style look at things was super fun to watch. Thanks for doing it! I really enjoyed seeing things from a different angle, especially as someone who's very interested in video production and how the kind of shows and videos Giant Bomb puts out come together.
Always wonderful to have Rich around! It's great to hear from him.
I'm really enjoying Battlefront so far. The paintball analogy is pretty perfect - it definitely feels like you have a distinction between the tighter, more balanced and competitive Drop Zone mode, and the role-playing, chaotic, huge scale sprawl of the Hoth map. I personally prefer the former; though I do still enjoy the fantasy fulfilment of the latter. (Incidentally I do think it's pretty funny that the rebels struggle to ever win on Hoth.)
If I was to suggest any change so far it'd be reducing accuracy at range a tad with the standard weapons - there's already a long-range rifle option and it feels a little too easy to cut someone down across the map (especially given how many players are on that Hoth map and how open a lot of the terrain is). In general I'm really enjoying it a lot - I like the low-cooldown equipment and the super fast pace of everything. It feels less like a Battlefield game than I was expecting it too, but in a good way.
I'll definitely give this a shot, although I'm not yet convinced I'll take to it as much as I did in MGS4's variant. There's just more on offer these days in the way of multiplayer stuff, and I feel as though the Walkers could get a bit annoying. Perhaps it'll be great though; only time will tell.
Also, people in these comments talking about uninstalling PC games are blowing my mind. I do that on console occasionally as I have no option, but I don't think I've ever taken a game off my PC unless it was a free weekend thing or a free-to-play game that I'm certain I'll never return to. Maybe I'm the crazy one, though.
I played through The Beginner's Guide yesterday and it's certainly a memorable experience (that I won't talk about further for spoiler reasons). Definitely going to spend some time with Undertale soon.
In other news, watching The Raid got me back into Destiny and I'm super glad it did because that game really is better in so many ways now (and I loved the original, put over 400 hours in and that was almost all pre-HoW).
Just finished it tonight, read this review and Cara's article as well as a few discussions on the game's subreddit. It's a fascinating thing, however it came about. Thank you for talking about it, Austin, because (even without reading this review ahead of my decision to play it) you helped to bring it to my attention. I'm certainly glad I played through it.
