Goin’ Out with a Whimper 0

The premise of this review is that you, fair consumer of all things Bioware, have played through all of the main game and perhaps the expansion as well.  It is not overly clear that you necessarily must have played through Awakening to understand the story, or where Witch Hunt takes place in the Dragon Age chronology, but as the main character is at one point referred to as the “Warden Commander”, it seems likely this is what the writers intended this to be last.  I feel this is a fairly safe pr...

It’s Like my Charade’s Answer 0

Puzzle Agent has an indie flavor with a professional degree of polish that makes for an enjoyable twist on the standard adventure game.  Players will assume the role of (or guide the actions of, depending on your personal degree of immersion) FBI Special Agent Nelson Tethers.  Agent Tethers works in the bureaucracy’s obscure Puzzle Research Division.  While the title might cause one to think that this Division is home to a legion of agents, engorged with federal resources, all tasked with uncove...

Good Show! 0

[I hope at least two other reviews have here that tagline, but I’m not checking.] Henry Hatsworth, Leopold Charles Anthony Weasleby the Third, Cole This game for the DS offers a unique experience by mixing two different genres of games, puzzle and side-scrolling action.  If released individually, it is doubtful that either game would warrant any discussion as neither is particularly good.  But when the creators mixed together these two mediocre games and sprinkled the brew with a charming settin...

More like Twisted Metal CRACK! Am I right? Guys? Hellooo. Is 0

I was thinking of a game to review and I thought up that stupid tag line.  Now I have to write a review that not only is long enough to get on the site, but justifies the line and an appropriate score.  Thanks, me from two minutes ago! Without going too much into the detail of the Twisted Metal series, it is suffice to say that this is a reboot of the franchise and that a lot of people have said that this was a good thing since the series sort of shot off the rails since the third game.  My pers...

Kick a Gnome 0

This is an old game.  The question is, is it a good game?  Well, lets pretend that this is a new game, not one that I threw quarters into at an arcade on the board walk when I was a wee lad on a family vacation. Golden Axe is a 2.5D side-scrolling beat em'up developed by Sega.  Players may choose one of three characters at the outset.  It is the hourish long quest of these noble adventurers to stop the evil Death Adder (Addler?).  The three playable characters have names, but as they are not men...

Not a Good Value for Most 0

So, there is a question of who is review is for. If you’re just thinking of getting into this whole “Age of Dragons” thing, don’t read this. And if you’re strapped for time, you probably shouldn’t read this, but you definitely should not play this expansion pack. In Dungeons and Dragons, and in other pen and paper RPG products, there are things called “modules.” A module is essentially a already planned out adventure for a group of players and can be either relatively short, stand alone blueprin...

A Bucket of OK 0

I've heard that some people who regularly write reviews, in a professional capacity, don't take notes on the theory that if something is not memorable, it probably is not significant enough to tell a potential consumer about it.   From this school of thought I am going to review Heavenly Sword, a Ninja Theory game I played two years ago and sort of remember.   This bit of content is for the reader who says to himself, "I've got a Playstation 3, some time on my hands, and want to experi...

Edy’s Rip-off 0

It is difficult to score a piece of downloadable content like this.   One the one hand, Valkyria Chronicles is an awesome and completely fresh game that is worth owning, playing, and possibly even replaying.   Even without trophy support.   On the other hand, Enter the Edy Detachment is not a lot of content for way too much money.   But it is new content for the aforementioned good game.   The story of this map pack is fairly straightforward: Edy and several of supporting cast members ge...

YahwehTzVaoth Reviews an Action RPG she Played 15 Years Ago 0

The Mana series from Squaresoft, now SquareEnix, is much maligned, and rightfully so.   The majority of the games in this series are for the most part awful that do not control particularly well.   Over the years that games have had an increasingly childlike aspect to the art design; eyes have gotten bigger and enemies less menacing.   I do not feel that the publisher has any idea what they are doing with that franchise.   There is no direction and the last few games were not the best wa...

The Power of Imagination 0

Think about a Phoenix Wright game without all of the charm and memorable characters.   Now pick of a copy of Unsolved Crimes and make that vision a reality.   YOU ARE A GOD! Or you might be someone who will not be at all disappointed with this game after reading this review.   The game boils down into a series of crimes where it is your job as a silent new homicide detective to determine what happened based on the evidence before you.   This is similar in structure to the aforementioned Capcom ...

Meter is for Pussies 0

This is a game amount killing a demon The thing that your teenage brain’s been dreamin’ In fact that was a lie to get ya rousin’, Because you actually kill Satan’s homeboys by the thousand “They’res also zombies!” You could technically say. But you’d agree with me, they never really get in the way. In this game you get to go down halls Never having to hear about Duke Nukem’s balls You get a shotgun, pistol, rocket launcher and a chainsaw That your guy thought to bring brass knuckles should fil...

626 Words of Pleasure 0

In this review there will be two SPOILERs.   The first is: Yo, Guybrush gets him a Hook Hand.   This is not much of a spoiler since it is one of the first things to happen, but there you go (the other spoiler is hidden as are several of the objects in this game).   Hopefully in future episodes the protagonist will get a peg leg and make a joke about only being able to count to twelve.   As this is an Adventure game, it comes down to four basic elements: graphics, sounds, writing, puzzles.  ...

Vague Memories 0

I remember playing this game back sometime in 1996.    At the time I had just bought a Playstation in order to play Final Fantasy 7 because the graphics looked wicked-sweet when I looked at GamePro.   That’s what you read back then if you owned anything other than a Super Nintendo or if you were like me and worked a lot in order to earn enough money for a Genesis.   That magazine was also good for 3D eye-candy.   The Playstation was the next system I bought with hard-earned lawn mowing cash. As ...

Not Really Worth the Wait 0

Alan Wake is a fairly good game.   The best things about it is the story telling and the lighting.   Light plays an integral part to the game, so it makes sense that it is what they spent the most time on with the engine.   The shadows are very dynamic and their shapes look realistic.   When you shine a flashlight on a chair, a shadow appears on the floor that looks like a chair's shadow.   The game’s shadows do not look fully real for whenever there is an object in a light source’s path, it to...
