I actually got a lot better performance after tweaking the graphics setting by selecting "Options" in the launcher window (before the game goes full screen).  The auto-detect feature in F:NV set my game to Ultra-High graphic settings.  I could anticipate every crash because it was preceded by a huge drop in frame rate as my machine choked trying to render too much detail.  By going into "Options" in the launcher window, I simply changed the general graphics settings from Ultra-High to High (you can do more tweaking if you want in "Advanced" settings).  I'm getting a much better frame rate and the games crashes a lot less.  I know it sounds pathetic to toil over a game just to make it "crash a lot less", but I love Fallout!!!

I did go out of my way to get the lunch box for F3, but I don't think I'll be getting this collectors addition.  The Steam download will be good enough this time.

I definitely prefer to game on the PC, but my love of Street Fighter (and so many other fighting games) make a console just as necessary.

@Seppli: That's pretty funny.  My previous PC gaming experience had been a few rounds of Doom way back in the day, so KB&M still took some getting used to (and I haven't even started playing around with hotkeys).  What attracted me the most to PC gaming was the ability to modify my own system.  It can be a total pain to deal with sometimes, but it's worth it to see some of my favorite games (BF, Fallout 3) running at their highest settings (and two feet from my face).  Either way, it's safe to say we are both looking forward to more Battlefield.

@Seppli: I think it's a matter of taste.  I also got into Battlefield with the first Bad Company release on the 360 (specifically the multiplayer).  At the same time, I was getting into building gaming PC's and put together a nice rig of my own.  After that, I went strait to BF:BC2 on PC and never looked back.  I would never fault a developer for wanted to expand its user base, I just happen to prefer games designer with a mouse and keyboard in mind.  I used to play Halo and CoD on the 360.  Now when I play an FPS with two analog sticks, I'm terribly inaccurate.  I don't know how I did it!  I really think it's a matter of taste.

Resident Evil.  RE 4 & 5 are both really well made games, but no good zombie game, movies, whatever... should even bother trying to explain where zombies come from.  They just exist.  Here's a shotgun.  Deal with it.

@No0b0rAmA: I agree.  Battlefield is a PC-ass PC game.  I really wanted it to stay that way.

I should start by talking up some of my favorite titles in my gaming life.  Three games in particular always come to mind when I start making lists in my head; Earthbound, Killer 7 and Fallout 3.  Earthbound is so charming, well designed and features an incredible soundtrack.  Killer 7 is one of the most forward thinking and bizarre games I've ever played (imagine David Lynch made a video game).  To me, the simple cell-shaded graphics are timeless.  In addition, Killer 7 is the only game for which I own the soundtrack.
Fallout 3 was the first massive, open, non-Japanese RPG that got it's hooks into me.  This was released shortly after I moved to Washington DC which made it that much more relevant to me.  The walls of the metro, Dupont circle, Lincoln's Henry repeater (currently on display at the Smithsonian).  It's like a sci-fi alternative to my everyday life.  Anyway, these are the games I keep boxed copies of at all times on as many systems as possible (which actually isn't that many).  As a weird juxtaposition, I am so deep into Battlefield: Bad Company 2 right now, I'm spending all my gaming budget on upgrading my PC to better serve my multi-player experience.  That and I cannot wait to see more details on Battlefield 3.  Oh well.  The wasteland is calling...

A whole new set of weapons and gadgets that fit the era.  Doing this will basically remix all the classes too.  It'll be a whole new multi-player game.
