Premonitions of a Zombie Apocolypse

This past November I got a job delivering pizza in the Birmingham area. Working in the daytime brings me to a lot of different businesses around the city. So I spend most of my time doing what I suspect the majority of people do while visiting new locations, imagining what this particular place would be like in the event that zombies have overtaken the country. I immediately give the building a score on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being impenetrable and 1 being....well, not very safe). However, recently I have delivered to a particular place that definitely is not the safest place in the world, but brings a gust of inspiration that I'd like to share.

This is Trinity Medical Center, I believe it has high potential to be the setting of an exquisite zombie game. The image from Google Earth shows the vastness of the campus. With 6 sprawling buildings to explore, it makes for quite an overwhelming labyrinth. Every time I deliver here I can't help but to imagine the halls packed wall to wall with hordes of the undead.

This picture in particular is of the UNDERGROUND TUNNEL SYSTEM that links all the buildings together. If that doesn't scream survival horror, then I don't know what does. A feature by Game Informer's Jeff Marchiafava highlights different characteristics a zombie game should have, and I have to say I completely agree. After reading a book like the Zombie Survival Guide, it's hard not to imagine how it would be with zombies hunting for you every second. Putting Trinity as a focal point of sorts in a game where you can wander the entirety (or maybe a scaled down version) of a post-apocalyptic Birmingham would be amazing.

Scraping together supplies for mere sustenance, fashioning small fortresses to hold off the impending horde. Countless suburban homes to rummage or use for shelter, survivors to find(both good and bad), and businesses to loot. Not to mention the University campus and National Guard base. I attempted to pitch the idea to a renowned game developer, but he didn't seem interested even though he is a Birmingham native. Here's hoping that one day this penultimate zombie experience will be made.
