This is great for me.. in a way. I bought the ps3 game and then the bluray crystal on my ps3 crapped out. I haven't replaced the ps3 because it seemed foolish to do so with the new consoles around the corner (at the time).

The store doesn't have a digital copy and it wasn't available anywhere else.. so i couldn't play it =( now.. i guess i'll have to buy it again, but at least i'll be able to play.

Yes, we remember. If everyone has kinect from day one then developers know everyone will have kinect and they'll do more than a half-assed effort to include kinect in regular games. This has been stated over and over again.

"A couple of games with voice command" comes around because of the outright (and largely unwarranted) hatred flowing towards kinect. While I won't say it's going to change things like adding a Mouse to FPS use (we all used to play Doom, Duke Nukem etc with just a keyboard and thought it was fine, remember?) I think it will be good to have.. and it will only get better.

And, really, I do not understand why people assume MS is leaning away from games because they're showing all the additional stuff their hardware can do besides gaming. It's an xbox. It games. It also does other things, isn't that nice? =/

That hundred dollar price difference is still going to be the breaking point. They need to stop trying to hitch their horse to Kinect, and just offer it as a separate peripheral.

Remember when every 360 game was supposed to have Kinect components? And how all we got were a couple of games with voice command? Most likely less than a year into the One we'll see see it dropped altogether just like is was on the 360.

So.. interesting/exciting thought if the promises are true. Going off of what they said about having AI drivers (driveatars or whatever) actually reflect the playstyle of other players, can you imagine a time when every enemy in an FPS is as capable as a really good FPS player? Bots in offline multiplayer, or filler-bots for multiplayer or even single player campaigns. What if it applied to other games/genres, too? What if the lowliest scrub that Kratos tries to beat to death with his own testicles is a tricky, smart player?

well.. who knows if it's real or not.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Microsoft will just come back and say "well, if you keep the disc in the system when you play then you don't need to check in every 24 hours". I hope. But, the more the drive is used the lower the lifespan, right?

Hi guys, really vague memory here, but I believe it was a display of the engine being able to create foliage growth in real time and the setting was some city devoid of animal life. Saw I am Legend the other day and was instantly reminded of this trailer/teaser I saw a few months ago but am now having problems finding.

I know it's extremely vague, and I should have bookmarked it when I saw it.. but if you can help, I would appreciate it.

I've tried many of my blu-rays and they're all skipping or giving playback errors, now. I just tried putting in a game that I had previously played and installed and it is stuck on the loading screen getting nowhere.

Still plays dvds fine.

Just downloaded the latest update, too. I'm just not certain I understand why the laser would work fine for a few minutes and then crap out.. i would have thought it would be crapped out to begin with and not play fine for a while.

All of a sudden in the middle of a blu-ray film my ps3 started stuttering adn skipping while my friend and I were watching. I figured it was a dirty/scratched disc but that wasn't the case. Tried a film I had seen a few days earlier with no issue and it didn't work.

Now, the ps3 will play a blu-ray for about 5-10 minutes flawlessly, but then start skipping after that. This made me think that the laser can't be the problem, but I really do not know. Is the ps3 overheating and that is affecting the playback? I can play installed games (lbp2 via playstation plus) for hours just fine. on a cold boot, the discs will load fine. after trying a blu-ray for 10 minutes and having issues, sometimes i will get an 'invalid disc' error.

Remedies I have tried:

1) using a vacuum to pull out dust from vents

2) using the ps3 fan test (i've heard good and bad)

3) using a lens cleaner

4) using the safe mode to do a File system rebuild

5) a system restore

So.. I forgot to backup stuff and lost my save games etc, but no big deal.. PS+ remembers who i am (i believe i deactivated the stuff before formatting.. must make sure before i try again).

Any thoughts? Why would the laser work fine for 10 mintues and then crap out? does it have a heat sensor? It's exactly 2 years old, so i'm out of warranty. I'm told that service + S&H = 150-200 + turnaround time. new ps3 = 250.. DIY repair = 50-75. Local repair = 100ish.. if i find one. Sony + local repairs = 90 day warranty, so I may just buy a new one.

thanks in advance

EDIT: ps, how do i make sure that the games I downloaded via PS+ for free will remain available to me? I know they should, but how do i double check that I have indeed "bought" them for zero dollars and therefore will continue to be able to d/l them?

a lot of people are making a lot of assumptions about others, and then either beating up straw men or getting outraged. everyone needs to relax

@Cubical said:

I fucking hate netflix gamefly anyway and would rather got to a fucking video store down the street in 5 minutes get a realk disc and Netflix picture quailty on streaming movies makes them look and sound like compreessed ass compared to the real bluray disc.

IT is the same type of thing fucking ass lossy comprssed sound that crap mp3 and mp4 did to music ruining cd sound quailty forever (and CD sound was starting to sound like ass by the time DVD audio and super audio CD came out) only netflix is making movies look and sound like ass this time.

and those fucking redboxes have a collection of ass crap movies only fucking punk kids and teens and clueless soccer moms would want to watch and every single one has nothing but trash compared to a old ass Real Video rental store,

Thanks for nothing and ruining film picture and sound quality netflix and red box you fuckers may i piss on your grave when you can no longer sustain this cheep ass price scheme you are using to get people to use your crap service.

If I still lived where I used to I might agree with you, but I can't just walk to a video rental store as there are none near me, anymore. Netflix streaming has ups and downs.. I would never ever use it for a movie like Iron Man or etc because, as you said, the video/audio will not stand up to the blu-ray. Having said that, it's great for casual viewing, revisiting tv shows on a lunch break or etc and the instant gratification. To be honest, i've only had a big tv and surround sound for 5 years.. prior to that i had an old (small) crt + vhs and I was perfectly happy watching films that way. Obviously there is a difference, and I'm not saying they are equivalent. I see the streaming as a great supplement, but not something I would exclusively have at this time when quality has not caught up. The reason people are being forced to make a choice now is because of the price changes and the upcoming split of services.

Regarding the dvd service, you haven't said much so I won't go into there.

Re: redbox... completely useless for constant movie watching, and uneconomical for such an endeavour. It is, however, useful for impulse rentals, though the selection is all over the place.
