I didn't realize this thread was about SimCity, so I was picturing someone in a really dire situation.

I bought El Shaddai, thinking of buying Dirt 2 but the only driving game I've ever really gotten into is Burnout. Would Dirt 2 be accessible enough for me to have fun with it?

Those guys got lucky.

There are probably other factors involved (skill, good personality, etc.), but at the end of the day they are Youtube successes because of luck and only luck. For every one of them there are probably a thousand guys who produce videos of similar quality that you nor anyone else here has heard of because they weren't as lucky.

Yup. The chances of being able to make a living off YouTube are probably slightly less than winning the lottery.

If you can do it on the side, that's fine, but anyone who quits their job to try for a "YouTube career" is crazy.

I remember on my old GameSpot account I wrote this really lengthy blog post arguing against Roger Ebert when he claimed that games can't be art.

It's definitely a groaner.

EDIT: Oh, I found the link. It's terrible, but at least it's laughably terrible.

I bought the Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition for $80. Never again.

I will never pre-order a game ever again, nor buy a game at release for $60.

I have an hour long commute both ways to and from school, so having a podcast that lasts the entire trip and more instead of half of it is great.

Same here. It's amazing how much you can listen to on those long commutes. Back when my commute was only a few minutes, I never listened to any podcasts. Now subscribe to around 5.

I think 90s-era U2 is by far the best. I like the 80s stuff okay, but I think it's awesome that a band that was so incredibly popular took a huge risk with Achtung Baby, and they only got crazier from there. Zoo TV was freakin' nuts.

I was really disappointed when ATYCLB brought them back to the stadium-rock stuff, and recently it seems like they're more interested in money than anything else. Who knows what kind of music they could be making now if they had stayed as creative as they were back then.

Syd Barrett was a bat-shit crazy genius, but when I think of Pink Floyd I think of the Roger Waters incarnation.

Funny enough, my favorite Floyd album is Wish You Were Here, which is part of the Waters-era but has connections to Barrett.

Nope, I've never been an early adopter and I never will.

Price drops are my time to shine.

I'm reading The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable.

It's really interesting, and is genuinely making me look at the world in a different way.
