Yesterday I received this email from Gearbox:

So I guess they're abandoning the other shooter thing they made and seeing if this works? The mention of "metagame strategy" and CCG's had me already rolling my eyes; just give me Borderlands 3 already!
Game » consists of 0 releases.
@ivdamke: Yea, I could see them doing this if the other game had been a success, but since it didn't work out...maybe realize that Borderlands was basically lightning in a bottle?
I sure wouldn't mind Gearbox coming up with a few good IPs to flesh out the years between Borderlands, but they're not going to find a whole lot of support for gimmicky first person shooters that seem to cling to trends a couple of years late. It really couldn't hurt to move away from the shooter genre in general for anything not named Borderlands or maybe Brothers in Arms if one could be done well.
What stupid gimmick will they shove into this shooter I wonder? Oh, cards. "Neat".
I hope I get to spend 50% of my time fiddling around in menus.
So like with Battleborn, is Randy going to ask for Project 1v1 porn as marketing material?
If so, someone should let him know that Shadman doesn't take commissions.
Wasn't there a Brothers in Arms thing in the works a few years ago? Whatever happened to that? If that was never a thing and I'm just crazy, you'd think they would have just started working on Borderlands 3 after Battleborn flopped.

That's the thing I was thinking of, but it looks like they turned whatever was left of it into Battleborn so I guess scratch that.

I definitely remember Jeff or someone talking about vague rumors of them starting work on Borderlands 3. It's kind of baffling they're taking a swing at another weird gimmick FPS instead of a sequel to their only beloved franchise after their last weird gimmick FPS flopped.
evetything else removed, it's nice that they're at least trying something out of the ordinary. Like, good luck getting it going and all, and makong it good, but hopefully it's at least trying something different (and not including "CCG Metagame," for microtransaction potential).

People have fond memories of those Brothers in Arms games, too, although I don't know if modern Gearbox can deliver the same kinds of games that early 2000's Gearbox did.
It's also entirely possible they're trying to churn something out until they can get us something meatier to put on the table.
Regardless, all we've seen of this game is a few screenshots and a sentence's worth of details (something shooter something collectible card game something), so I guess we should just wait and see. Might come out and surprise everybody, who knows?

They are currently working on Borderlands 3, they've done tech demo talks at GDC about it. Some of the stuff they showed is kind've neat too some of it I'm not so fond of.
I had the idea of a ccg where each card would involve some sort of different skill based game. Imagine a standard card board where cards are windows into vastly different worlds, where you and your opponent face off in different types of games. Not sure if that's what this is, but it's something I would like to see made.
What are they doing with Homewooooooorld...
