    When the Brotherhood of Steel arrived in Washington D.C. to recover technology, Elder Owyn Lyons decided to defy orders from the ruling council and make their primary mission the protection of the Capital Wasteland inhabitants. This upset some of the members of the Brotherhood of Steel, including Casdin. One night, they grabbed a bunch of weapons, armor, and supplies, and left the Citadel to become the "Outcasts", the group of disgruntled soldiers that do not wish to abandon their original goals and values.
