The Leamenator & [Prototype]
"Protype" is one of those games that is really hard to determine an opinion on, of whether or not it is good, great, superb, okay, etc. Here are the two things that make it so hard; the game has a rather mediocore & poorly fleshed out story (though there are some exceptions with the web of intrigue), but at the same time, it has got to have some of the most exciting, exhilerating, and versatile gameplay that I've ever expierenced in a videogame. I've never had so much fun with combat than I did in this Activision-produced game where you don't think about whether or not to kill someone, but where you think about how. Alex Mercer (the main protagonist who is an amnesiac responsible for releasing a deadly infection on manhattan) has a hugely immense array of weapons and others powers at his disposal; a whipfist, musclemass, claws, hammerfists, blade, etc. And running & gliding around the city while slicing and dicing up miltary personnel, infected, and even innocent civilians is full of huge thrills. However, and this is where the game falls short, the story wasn't quite as well fleshed out as it could've been. The characterization was lacking in some characters, some cut scenes were poorly written with boring/cheap dialogue, and in the end, the game couldn't satisfy with it's poor presentation of the final cinematic. While in some games, things like these can easily be over-looked, in this game, it ruins it. Luckily, "[Prototype]" has some fantaastic gameplay and a cleverly thought of web of intrigue (a series of human memories that Mercer consumes and can look over afterwards) to partially make up for the disappointing presentation of the story.
