Polygon have a new interview up with Sami Järvi (aka. Sam Lake) discussing Quantum Break, the fate of Alan Wake 2, narrative in games and the next generation of consoles.
The video interview can be found here.

Not many game dudes I respect more than Sam Lake. Great writer. Thanks for posting this.
He's always a great sport for making that dumb Max Payne face whenever asked.
Wait, his real name isn't Lake? I'll never believe in anything ever again
Järvi is Finnish for lake, so technically his last name is lake.
Wow the stuff he says about the choice you have and cliffhangers between each "episode" sounds amazing. And like a lot of work! And a lot of re playability too.

What I found maybe most interesting though was that it seems like Remedy are really rearing to show off the game, but Microsoft want to save it for a later marketing push. It must mean that the game is pretty far along in development already.

hahaha that's so awesome.
Anyways, yes, I think they may be further along especially gameplay wise. Posted this like two times already in different threads but I'll just say I was talking to someone online who said that this game was more of a third person shooter than they had been showing, and that the main mechanic to Quantum Break's combat is the ability to mess with the timeline, like as in the ability to clone yourself by rewinding and restarting time and that kind of thing. Sounds a lot like Super Time Force. This was just whatever internet talk but they seemed to suggest they had signed an NDA or something.
Anyways, watching this interview, he talks about, at like 27 min mark, that in their gameplay they have the ability for the engine to record time and with your powers, time can be scrubbed back through and distorted... again, sounds like the potential for the exact thing I was told, Super Time Force style. I'm really hoping this is where they are going, that would be amazing in a full on third person shooter.

Faith restored!
Holy fuck with all the new console talk I completely forgot about Quantum Break. I really wanna see what the tone of the TV show is. I wont be upset if it continues on the same path as Alan Wake.
Edit: Sam Lake seems like a really nice guy. Can you imagine how many times he's been asked to do the Max Payne face? I would have told someone to go fuck themselves by now

What was the point of including his Finnish name in the thread title? He has been going by Sam Lake for a long time.
I mainly just wanted to annoy you.
That and because it's his name, I don't know I've never gotten used to calling him Sam Lake.

Better than David Cage... :P THERE'S ONLY ONE PERSON WHO CAN CARRY THAT NAME. cc @alex
Great interview. I appreciate the respect with which Jarvi discusses combining narrative and gameplay.
(Sorry if anyone had to try and understand that weird post i put up here earlier. Sometimes I just jot notes and edit thoughts in the giant bomb forum text field :P)

For what it's worth I couldn't possibly have agreed more than what you edited out. Sam Lake and Remedy do game stories right, trying to still make their games games vs what some other people and studios do.
Their games have great stories but even still do not take themselves too seriously. Max Payne 2 had a whole TV show in it shitting on the Max Payne story (Dick Justice).
Game Informer have put up a short written interview as well.
I am Ready
Way more to share next week, but happy to confirm the first look at QUANTUM BREAK gameplay for Xbox One is coming to VGX on 12/7.
