Racing Lagoon is a street racing RPG developed and published by SquareSoft for the PlayStation in Japan on June 10, 1999.

Combining behind-the-back street racing gameplay with numerous RPG elements, Racing Lagoon has players participating in multiple types of street races (usually as random encounters) while building up their customizable car with piecemeal parts (which are usually taken from rival cars by winning against them). It features a unique overworld system (where players drive their car in a JRPG-style bird's-eye view), a lengthy story reminiscent of Square's other RPGs, pre-rendered 3D character graphics, and PocketStation support (allowing players to race against other saved cars).

Set in the Japanese city of Yokohama in modern-day 1999, Racing Lagoon puts players in the role of Sho Akasaki, a rookie member of the street racing team Bay Lagoon Racing (BLR). As he rises up the ranks in the world of underground street racing, Sho gets caught up in the myth of "Yokohoma's Fastest Legend" and its deadly consequences.

The game later received an unofficial English fan translation in November 2021.

    Machine Complete

"Machine Complete" is the name of the game's vehicle customization system, where players can change and augment multiple parts of their car using parts acquired both through street race battles (which require spending RP, or "Rewards Points") and through shop purchases (which require spending yen).

Each car has three main swappable "units" (Engine, Chassis, and Body), each with multiple "sockets" for additional components. As they complete race battles with the units, they can level them up to earn additional sockets. Some units are incompatible with each-other.

    • The Engine unit primarily affects the car's power performance. Some parts are only available to engine types that support them. Other unique parts include turbochargers and fuel additives. Some engines have 4 or 6 gears.
    • The Chassis unit primarily affects the car's handling, with parts relating to tires, brakes, and suspension system. It also affects the drivetrain, with each chassis belonging to five drives (FF, FR, MR, RR, and 4WD). Some unique parts include a navigation system (which shows arrows on the UI when approaching curves) and a manual transmission gearbox.
    • The Body unit primarily affects the car's aerodynamics, with parts related to the body kit, wings, spoilers, underbody panels, and weight adjustments. It also affects the car's appearance, with each unit corresponding to a real-life body frame and parts relating to body color. It also includes bonus "sticker" parts to collect.

As players can take parts from rival cars by defeating them in battle, they can also have their parts taken away from them by losing to them.
