When the game released on Steam, absolutely everyone was talking about how busted the PC version was. Is the game stable enough that I can buy it on Steam and enjoy it? Or is it still not fixed?

I bought it through Steam on release, and had absolutely no problems with it. There are unofficial fixes out there that solve all the problems, anyway and I've seen them in action on my friends computers.

I have an ATi card and needed to turn off triple buffering in the ATI control panel to get the game to launch. However, it does work after some hassle. I guess if you own an ATI card you've already committed yourself to a journey of duct-tape settings and driver miscarriages so that should come at no surprise.

Ah, I have an nVidia card so that must be it...I actually recall Doom 3 running better on nVidia, as well, now that you mention it.

It's stable enough but not enough for you to enjoy because the game still sucks copious amounts of Carmack.

Just FPS fatique and lack of story for me, the game plays fine, no problems with the core gameplay

I enjoyed it (360) right up until the ending. That sucked. I was waiting to head back to town to pick up some more missions when the credits started to roll.
