Overview
Raichu, the evolved form of Pikachu is known for its improved stats but inability to learn new moves through leveling. As such, most players will choose to raise their Pikachu high enough to learn all the moves they want for it before undergoing the evolution process.
In Pokemon Yellow, your starter/companion Pikachu can not be evolved into a Raichu until traded to a friend and traded back. After the evolution, your Raichu will no longer follow the protagonist on screen.
