I was really surprised to see this game made it onto Steam as other Japanese indie games with US publishers like Suguri and Gundemonium never did. While I don't have much interest in this particular game, I decided to pick it up anyway as I wanna support the publisher (they're also looking to localize Chantelise, which I can confirm is an excellent game) and would like to see more Japanese indie games appear on Steam. If you feel the same way, I suggest you pick it up as well. It's only $17.99/€13,49 and slated for release on September 10th.
"What's the game actually about? The humor looks really good, and the artstyle looks pleasing, but how does the game essentially work? Is the narrative based on the itemstore, or is it typical JRPG kill mobs do story?

Yeah, the demo is pretty nuts. Love the feel to the combat. The key assignment is pretty nuts, since the default 3 "buttons" are z, x and c. Enter doesn't even work to select anything in the main menu. Though, once I figured that stuff out, the game seems relatively straightforward.
Either way, pre-ordered it. Pretty excited.
I tried the demo and thought it was great but the contols were a bit awkward
I tried it again with the Xbox360 controller and it was a lot better
The demo is awesome, love the game, love the humour

Yeah, you just need to go to the adventurers guild and hire someone. It's the first thing I did after the selling tutorial. There's a brief bit of conversation with an erstwhile "adventurer" boy and then everyone trucks off to the dungeon to kill some slime.
Oddly this game is really good having just played the demo.
I'm thinking of buying a DS again, shame it's not on there, seems like it'd fit perfectly.
Yeah but that's the pleasure of PC gaming, sometimes we get to have lovely little obscure titles like this (and Cave Story) well before other more to expensive to release on platforms. Seems a good reason to get an Atom Nvidia based netbook if you ask me. :)" Oddly this game is really good having just played the demo. This is the sort of batshit crazy game that makes me wish I could afford it and some video capturing equipment. I love that games like this exist.
" The art style instantly makes me less interested in the game. "Why does that sound so familiar? Oh yeah, I heard the exact same things after Disgaea was released... Too bad that game never went anywhere, eh?
Anyway, pre-ordered it, saved 2 bucks, and am loving every minute of it.....but damn the game is hard! I must be a masochist.

I haven't looked in depth, but I don't think I need to do that to make my point. He's just giving his own personal opinion. If he doesn't like the art style, he doesn't like it. No other games and no other people matter in this case." The art style instantly makes me less interested in the game. "Why does that sound so familiar? Nope. Neither did I.
As you said yourself, it doesn't matter in the context of the conversationDo you even know if Gizmo likes Disgaea? I don't know if he does, I've never seen him say anything about it.
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.I haven't looked in depth, but I don't think I need to do that to make my point. He's just giving his own personal opinion. If he doesn't like the art style, he doesn't like it. No other games and no other people matter in this case. "

Anyway, back on topic, on average how hard have people found the game? While the action/rpg elements have been relatively easy, I have found the mercantile sections, especially the steadily rising debt payments to be extremely challenging. I have based all of the goods in my shop from the dungeons and have found it difficult to keep up. Are people selling more goods from the market/guild? Are you doing a good mixture of both? I'd really like to hear how people have approached the game.
This game will have you up at 6 am and not crashing till 4am the next day. You really have no room for error... if you don't make the bank payment on the due date... you will be sleeping in a cardboard box. Recettear is insanely addicting! I've had to restart 3 times as I learn the ropes of shopkeeping/dungeon crawling. I'm still not sure how I'll ever make the payments.
I was interested in the concept of this game but was put off by the art style. I'm really not a big fan of that style, but nonetheless I installed the demo on steam. I've played it for 15 minutes and already love it, the writing is very sharp and witty which really helps make this game more than a generic JRPG, I'm pretty sure I'm either going to buy this today or wait until it's in a sale on Steam.
