About to play RDR. Tips?

" Always keep an eye for the cougars. And trust me, you'll know exactly what kind of cougars I'm talking about in no time. "O.o ?
" @JoeyRavn said:Cougars. As in "feline that will kill you and you won't hear it coming". Really, trust me. Once you encounter a cougar, you'll know what I'm talking about. Cougars pop out of nowhere, slash you a couple of times and boom. You're dead. They appear, basically, randomly all over the map, although there are have certain areas with a higher population of cougars. They can be so annoying even the devs admitted they went a bit too far with the spawning." Always keep an eye for the cougars. And trust me, you'll know exactly what kind of cougars I'm talking about in no time. "O.o ? "
Damn you, cougars.

This is very important. Also make sure to have bullets when traveling out at nights in the woods, sometimes you can't hear those grizzlies coming till it is too late. Also it helps to explore a bit, some of the best most wildiest horses can't be bought. So keep an eye out for different breeds, mainly seeing a horse you've never seen before.
If you're being attacked by animals and have dangerously low health, just pop open your inventory and either switch horses or use a campsite if you can. Heals you, keeps you from dying, and potentially saves you from losing any animal hides or furs.
I would very much recommend to not get too sidetracked. RDR can get kind of stuck on all the side activities about halfway through, and it's easy to just drop out at that point without the momentum of the narrative to push you forward. You can go back and play side quests after the story is over, so once you unlock all of the basic abilities, just sit back and enjoy the plot as it comes along, don't put it off for the sake of fetch quests and side tasks.
Of course, that was my experience. Your mileage may vary and so on.
If you think the game is boring by the time you get to Mexico, throw yourself out of a second story window and, if you survive, play Saints Row 2 instead.
" Always keep an eye for the cougars. And trust me, you'll know exactly what kind of cougars I'm talking about in no time. "Pfft, you're equipped with the knife from the start!
Kill them with that when they show up. Best advice for doing that though is doing something that looks like circle strafing.
" @JoeyRavn: Oh, I know what cougars are. The way you wrote it made me think they were like gangs or indians that own the shit out of you though! "Hah, indians are nothing compared to a little group of cougars.
Oh yes just ignore the picking up flowers and plants side stuff , its a bit boring but if you want the best costumes you must do them .... to find the right place to hunt for Y or Z animal look at the drawings in your map , those are useful for a idea to where to hunt them. Wild pigs are best found in the north in the mountains near Bonnie's farm (watch out for cougars tho). You must do the hunting in secuence , as to avoid hunting animals not being registered (if you do this side mission/hunting). Oh yeah its fun to hunt birds from a moving train :P
Oh yeah it is best to shoot a bear one shot gun blast from far to lower its health then go for the knife kill (the same for cougars). But a shit ton of health medicine .... you will thank me as you get killed by 2 attacks of a cougar/bear when you are hit once replenish your health to avoid death by them.
As much fun as it is to kill Herbert Moon, please abstain from doing so; it's not worth it :P
" I would very much recommend to not get too sidetracked. "I was going to suggest the opposite. I feel the main story bogs down at certain points and taking breaks by doing gang hideout missions, stranger missions, challenges, and random activities actually kept me into the game. Plus you get some pretty sweet items from doing some of those side missions and challenges.
Oh and buy a bandanna and lucky rabbit's foot asap from the general store.
" If you don't activate your campfire from your horse and you fast travel, you lose that horse. "Sure, if you don't hitch it. As long as the horse you hitched is alive, it will always come to you when you whistle for it.
Thanks everyone. I will definitely use these, except the ones of not picking up flowers and doing side quests. It's hard for me to refrain from doing those.>_>
Killing a shop keeper closes the shop for a few days. People like to kill that particular shop keeper for some of the things he says.
I recommend looking up how to properly duel before playing. That part's kinda hard to grasp when it's presented so quickly. Other than that, have fun!
" @awesomeusername: If you feel bored, DO NOT STOP PLAYING UNTIL YOU GET TO MEXICO, that's where the game really opens up. If you don't like the Mexico part, then this is probably not the game for you "I actually remember a lot of people being turned off when they got to the Mexico section.
I think the opening to the game is great, but I thought the whole game was great, so there's that.
If you just encountered and killed a bear there is a 99% chance theres another one behind you and youre about to die.
Be a man turn off auto aim and switch to free aim.
That way you'll have a lot more fun and it'll be a little more challenging. Plus you'll also see the amazing physics more at work as you make horses in front trip the horses behind them and shooting at legs to make people fall.
@ Michael_B_Back Fuckin dick
@TheGreatGuero: No thanks.(;
@Axxol: I saw one of those and my horse was running so fast I stopped behind the carriage and they said "HOLY CRAP! He found us!" and I destroyed them. I was surprised.
@Doctorchimp: I was going to say no but now I think I might actually switch it.
@Michael_B_Back: I would've cursed you out if I didn't know this already. Serioulsy, delete that comment though, you already stopped hoursofbs from playing the game. And I don't like to be reminded that he dies. Thank you.
