I thought GTAIV was amazing. From what I've heard, it feels a lot like GTAIV.

Way to retcon history.  While I am no fan of the "perfect" review GTA got almost exclusive high praise in the press and while there are plenty of dissenters, if still pretty much loved by the general audience.

wtf is wrong with everyone, GTA4 was amazing. It didnt get those scores for no reason.

I actually really liked GTA IV. My only qualm with the game was that coming from how much variety San Andreas had in terms of things to do other than story missions, GTA IV fell flat.

I much preferred GTAIV to its predecessors. This will hopefully be even better than that :) 
I can see similarities in both games but I'm sure they are very different! :D

As long as it is like GTA4 I will be happy as long as I don't have to fly that helicopter.  Which would be bizarre if I did.

I really enjoyed GTA4 but its distinct lack of variety with the activities, repetitive missions and drop down on character customisation hampered alot of its potential for me. This is where RDR looks to greatly improve upon. Well I can't say for the repetitive missions, but the activities available and the sole reason of exploring the world to actually explore, already looks like a success with its variety.

If you put a game on a high enough pedestal it will disappoint you regardless of how good it actually is. I really enjoyed GTA IV, but I also went into it with realistic expectations.

GTA IV was FAR from "Meh" it was one of the most engaging and alive games I've ever played.
 
I'm hoping Red Dead follows suit.

GTA IV was the best game that came out that year.

The main problem with GTA IV for me is that the combat is awful. Luckily the combat in RDR seems really good.

It was the first game I got on my 360 and I played it for over 60 hours. "

No one does that even for games that are widely hated by the community and critics. Not Big Rigs, not Deadly Premonition, and GTA IV is a lot better than either. "

GTAIV is awesome, and RDR looks like the game I've been waiting for since forever, the ultimate Western game and I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it!

I liked San Andreas a lot more than GTAIV.  I was pretty amazed by GTAIV when it first came out, but as time went by I began realizing that most of what I liked about the game was all flash and little substance.  But that's just my opinion.
 
After playing Just Cause 2 I think I'm over "sandbox" games.  At least for a little bit.  This means I'm not hyped at all for RDR, which is a shame because I normally really like the western environment.

The shooting in GTA is clunky and slow. It suits old shitty guns better than the modern weapons of GTA. I imagine that a horse is hard to control, kind of like in SotC. The bad controls from GTA4 vehicles will convey that difficulty well. The online will probably be shit just like GTA was.

GTAIV is fantastic. I don't know where you're getting meh from unless you wanted more stupid gimmicks, in which case that game wasn't for you, Saints Row II was.
