I think it will be between this and Mass Effect 2 that gets the highest scores of the year. What are the odds of it beating GTA IV's metacritic score of 98?

it damn well better be good. i pre-ordered this instead of games that i know will be great like blur and mario galaxy 2. it better be better than those games or im gonna throw a hissy fit

Looks like I won't be picking it up, then. I couldn't stand GTAIV's gameplay. Everything, from the movement to the driving to the shooting, just felt wrong. A shame about Red Dead Redemption... it looked like it could've been a lot of fun.

@The_Laughing_Man: You can't really get a good feel for a game's controls by watching footage of it.
@CL60: What do you mean, "what"? I couldn't stand GTAIV's gameplay. OPM are saying Red Dead Redemption is a reskinned GTAIV. So add two and two, and you get that I most likely won't like Red Dead Redemption. What's unclear about it?
1) The controls may be similar however there are quite a few sources saying that they have improved them over GTAIV.
2) GTAIV was made by Rockstar North whereas RDR is made by Rockstar San Diego so I wouldnt write this off straight away.
3) The shooting is different from GTA although it does have a few similarities.
4) You really think the driving controls in GTA will be similar to the horses in RDR. I can totally see the horses drifting around corners right now :)

also, about #2, the engine used for that table tennis game and gta4 was made by san diego apparently for red dead redemption, so they you'd think know it best and have also learned from gta4.
@Icemael: Fair enough. Don't believe the hype and wait to see if it is worth it. I hated GTAIV too, but I have hopes for this. So my pre-order is in...but i totally see where you're coming from.
Dood I can't wait for this game. I won't be able to get it until the weekend after it's release though (that's when I get paid next) and it's killin' me, man :( It's also making me want to buy back GTAIV, I never did finish TLaTD.
I can't see the controls feeling that similar to GTA 4. Horses and cars aren't all that similar for a start, and you can apparently turn the snap-to aiming off if you want, which I probably will. It seems like the story structure is going to very similar though, unfortunately.

In terms of ambience and immersion. Which has nothing to do with the core gameplay, which is what I hated about GTAIV.
Good news. I liked GTA IV a whole lot. Everything, from the movement to the driving to the shooting, just felt right. It was a huge step in the right direction for the GTA series. Finally it felt like someone designed all those systems to work as a whole, whereas in past GTA games there would always be a couple of features thrown in just for laughs or something (think of the car customisation in San Andreas, or the "great" controls of that plane you stole from the army) If RDR can improve some of GTA IV´s controls and feel it will be a great game, because a lot of GTA IV´s gameplay feels a little dated 2 years later.
