A few minutes spent in a Red Dead Redemption public free roam room is all it takes to learn the harsh reality of Rockstar San Diego's digital Wild West (emphasis on the "wild"). Things are hard out there. People kill people. People grief people. People cheat. People mod to earn buffalo mounts. And while the third DLC pack for the game will address some of these issues, Rockstar plans to get in front of them sooner than that with a title update.
Earlier this afternoon, Rockstar let it be known that it is interested in preserving "the integrity of gameplay for all online" and it has begun "working on new features to counter against isolated incidents of abuse that go on" in Red Dead Redemption's multiplayer component. The fruit of these labors will be a patch released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 within the next 30-days that will include "measures to counter hacking and cheating," (read: banning) as well as "anti-grief relief."
== TEASER ==So, how will the anti-grief relief work? According to the post, Rockstar will add custom teleportation and spawning. If a person is being bullied by a gang of Internet bandits, they'll be able to escape more easily by simply selecting a new region to run around in. In an interesting twist, those who grief and get a six-kill streak are also being given something special: a "Most Wanted" tag after the fact that'll alert other players of their dastardly deeds.
Considering the amount of DLC slated to hit the game, this probably won't be the last time Rockstar checks in on the state of multiplayer affairs. In fact, in the blog post, it's mentioned that the studio will "continue to monitor the lay of the land and fight the good fight via future title updates" to ensure everyone plays fair.
But then, when was the West fair?
