Here's the thing i'm broke 90% of the time (stupid job market here) and i finally got some cash in my pocket and i know i SHOULD save it but i have wanted RDR for a while now. I just recently got DQIX for x-mas and its an awesome game but i want/need something new on my 360 to scratch that itch and i'm torn if i should just save my cash or get rdr/$20 point card for the UN collection thing. What do you say giantbomb citizens?

Should i get this game?
No, borrow it or something else to scratch that itch if needed. Save the money.
Boring answer, I know. But it's always good to have some money left.
If you can love a game because of setting alone, sure. The game absolutely fucking nails the Western setting. The music, the scenery, the characters -- all that stuff is pulled of spectacularly well.
If you need your games to be fun to play, however, you need to know that the entire game is spent riding and fighting, and that the riding is tedious (it's like driving in most games, only instead of simply holding down a button you need to constantly tap A) and the combat boring (the reticule snaps to enemies for you and the scenarios never demand strategic thinking, so all you really do is press the fire button).
can you help me?
i have buy the game and it have not thevip code on the papir.
can you give me a new vip code to Red Dead Redemption ps3 please.
Yeah it's definitely worth a buy especially if you want to complete everything to get to 100% took me a good 30 hours i think. If you have any interest in westerns at all then you should like it. If you are someone that makes a HUGE deal about a bug in a game then you are warned. They weren't frequent enough to really effect my experience I had with the game. I found the ending to be really well done and probably the best ending i've seen in years. Oh and did I mention you can stab a grizzly bear to death?
ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY
This game is absolutely breathtaking. The graphics, audio, gameplay, environment, mood, color palette, art, dialogue......I could go on for hours explaining why this is such a great game. It's funny because I actually had no interest or even tried to have interest in the wild west before getting this game. Once again, Rockstar (San Diego in this matter) proves that it can captivate an audience that previously had not but one interest in a genre. My hat's off to you, Rockstar.
Oh, and just to repeat my original statement which was the answer to the question:
ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY
Don't listen to all the buzzkills that immediately descend on any RDR thread here, it is a fantastic game.
" If you can love a game because of setting alone, sure. The game absolutely fucking nails the Western setting. I set it to expert, or whatever the setting is called, and it no longer snaps to the chest, its all free aim.

I'd recommend the game, but I also got it for $15. I think you could probably wait for a price drop or the inevitable package with RDR and its DLC. If money is an issue there are a number of cheaper games that are just as good.
" @Icemael said:Doesn't matter. Enemies still die in one or two shots, and the scenarios still don't demand any strategic thinking whatsoever. It's basically "My First Third-Person Shooter: Wild West Edition"." If you can love a game because of setting alone, sure. The game absolutely fucking nails the Western setting. Well, definitely you should get it, but if money's tight, maybe you should wait for a price drop. It'll probably drop in price pretty soon.
It's definitely a game that should be played, but I'd wait for a price drop, or some sort of 2-for-1 deal kinda thing. It's a good game, great really...It's just not thatgood.
Yeah, it's a great game and will last you quite awhile, but like everyone is saying, price drops are pretty cool.
Is there a game of the year edition of this game out with the dlc at all or is it best to get the main game and the expansion seperate?
Well, here's a quick list of what I thought about RDR:
THE GOOD:
- Great Story
- Great Ending
- Great Graphics (for an open world game, but they're still pretty good)
- Fantastic Voice Work
- A relatively long single player story, with a lot of optional stuff and collectibles
- Very different from 90% of stuff that's out there in terms of setting and art
- It has multiplayer
THE BAD:
- It's easy as hell on Normal. This is not a hard game by any stretch of the imagination. Some of the optional quests are a bit difficult, but no storyline mission is difficult. It's easy as pie unless you set it to "expert", but even then... Dead Eye is overpowered.
- Mountain Lions are a pain
- The Multiplayer, while decent, isn't anything to get too excited about
- A divisive ending. I loved it. My brother, not so much.
So there - if you appreciate a good story and a fantastic sense of design, aesthetics and art, and if you like open world games, no question, buy this game right now. It didn't win so many GotY awards for nothing. The singleplayer mode will last you a good while, especially if you take my advice and turn off the damn auto-aiming. But even then... the only problem is that the game is very easy. Some people though GTAIV was easy, but this game is very easy - well, at least 99% of it is. Enemies almost never flank you, you can take a bucket load of bullets before you die, and you can even get items which make the enemies miss you more frequently! Money is a complete non-issue in the game, health packs (medicine) works instantly and you can carry more than you'll ever really need, ammo is literally everywhere (and regens when you save!), and your dead-eye power replenishes itself when you kill dudes!
But you know what? That doesn't really matter. I didn't play RDR for a "hardcore" challenge - I played it because John Marston is one of the best characters in recent years, the world he is in is awesome, and what other game has you shoot the rope to save a woman from being hanged, and then smoke the bandits who were trying to hang her? Or use dynamite to kill a bear!?
