Would you let a 6 year-old play RDR?

lolwat 16? Hahaha. Most people at 16 get up to much worse and ssee much worse than RDR!" GOOD GOD NO. Dude, even if it was a 16 year old, I think it'd be pushing it... "
I think it's a pretty bad idea. It's not that I wouldn't let the child play it, but I'll do everything possible to make him get bored of it and realize it's a waste of time.
For some reason, I'd be more comfortable letting a 6 year old play Undead Nightmare than the regular game. Something about it being zombies makes it more okay for me.
Sounds like the kid's got a problem there. Probably just because he's 6, FFS.
But no, I definitely wouldn't let a 6 year old play it. It's rated 18 for a reason, and while I'm okay with kids of a certain age under 18 playing it, 6 is waay too young. Your friend is irresponsible, hopefully his nephew's parents find out and disapprove too.
" Let him play to the end:you are a.. brilliant monster !
"And say it's his fault that John died. Guilt him for life!
i wouldnt let him watch a movie with all the same violence and nastiness in it so i wouldnt want him to play that game. they make games for kids. let him play one of those.
Repulsive and demented? Not really..." @Metal_Mills: Look, I love Red Dead Redemption, but a lot of that game is repulsive and demented. I'm 25, and I'm not sure that I'M old enough. Ya know? "
I haven't played RDR, but it doesn't seem like a game to let a six-year-old play, even though I doubt there would be long-term negative effects. As for tantrums, that can happen with young kids regardless of what type of game they're playing, or if they're doing something completely different. When I was younger, one of my cousins would often throw a tantrum whenever his parents came to pick him up from my how, and we didn't play M-rated games.
No, I would not. Not because I think he'll turn into a cowboy and go on a killing spree, but because there's a ton of violence, language and sexual content that I don't think a 6 year-old should be exposed to, especially in large doses.
" @TheGreatGuero said:Oh, totally. About 90% of the characters you meet in the game are the scum of the universe. It's very dark subject matter. Everything is twisted. Every time you think you're doing something good for someone, it has some horrific outcome. Take for instance, the side quest where you help the dude get flowers for his wife. There's cannibalism, rape, kidnappings. All kinds of stuff. You got guys like Seth, who dig up dead corpses to loot them, and there were plenty of clues to suggest that he was a total necrophiliac. Then leaders like the guy in Nuevo Paradiso who forces women into being his sex slaves. The game's freaking sick, dude.Repulsive and demented? Not really... "" @Metal_Mills: Look, I love Red Dead Redemption, but a lot of that game is repulsive and demented. I'm 25, and I'm not sure that I'M old enough. Ya know? "
I'm the kind of guy who always likes to play games as the good guy, but there was just too much wrong in Red Dead. I killed a lot of bad dudes and wish I could have killed so many more.
I wouldn't let him, but less because I think he couldn't handle the subject material (I remember when I was 6 I didn't understand any dark material that I saw, so it wouldn't have any negative moral effects on him), but because I think at 6 he should be doing something other than playing RDR all day.
I have allowed my 10 year old niece play RDR now that I've finished it and there's no danger of any possibly traumatising cut scenes.
She prefers stay within the confines of the MacFarlane ranch, riding horses, jumping fences, and occasionaly teasing the foul tempered bull and running away.
Once, she pushed over a guy who got in her way. He picked a fight, so she shot him - at which point, several lawmen descended and killed Marston Jnr. in a hail of bullets.
I think that's a pretty valuable life lesson right there.
I have an 8 year old that likes to ride around in private Free Roam but obviously the single player game and any public multiplayer is out.
" Let him play to the end:Yes!
"And say it's his fault that John died. Guilt him for life!

The very brief nudity and sexual content would be my main reason for not wanting a 6 year old playing RDR. I think the majority of the subject material would be lost to him unless he is already aware of prostitution and necrophilia at which point you already have bigger problems then RDR. I think the important thing is to just be aware and be involved in what he is playing. This might be an opportunity to engage in a conversation and teach him about what is right and wrong.
Don't wanna sound "not hip" but definitely not. I do not mind the violence so much, but nudity and sexual content and maturity of the story is not meant for the 6 year olds. But it is definitely situational. Some children could handle stuff like that better than others.

There could have been all those 'bad' things in games I played as a kid and I'd have told you "I loved that one shooting game where I rode horses and shot people".
I'd say it doesn't matter, sure you may enable him to play them. I have played video games all my life both violent and not, I have watched the goriest and cheerful movies all in my childhood. I'm an the result of violent media in my youth and am unaffected. I could tell reality from fantasy. I haven't even had a fight in my life, so as far as violent media making you violent that is bullshit. Take japan as an example the lowest crime rate and some of the most sick goriest shit in their games, manga and movies. I have an active social life and am not blood thirsty so as far as it affecting him, it won't do much other than entertain him. Also in an episode of Bullshit they made a young kid who loved playing shooters like call of duty and they brought him to the shooting range and made him fire a gun and he ended up hating the experience of firing it.
What reason would a six year old have for playing this game other than killing? He doesn't appreciate the story, the point of the game, other than shooting is fun! I wouldn't let my nephew nor my niece play this game, unless they had a genuine interest in something other than all the shooting, like riding the horses, keeping law and order, ranching et.c.
As for other Rockstar games, not a chance in hell I'd let them play GTA IV, that game is even crazier than this one, and that's saying something!
I don't know, I just don't see a good reason why a child should play this game, there are many other, less psychotic games they could play...

Necrophilia indeed.
