I played the multiplayer demo a bunch and some of the single player demo but I'm not entirely sure what the full game's like. Any of you guys picked it up yesterday and had a few hours with it to say what you're feeling so far? What's the single player campaign like. The world looked pretty huge but is it really that interesting to explore? Are you just getting shot at constantly and unable to just smash big buildings up by yourself?

I'm interesting in buying but not sure. I should probably wait for a review, I think Jeff's doing one but I don't know when that's dropping and I don't check out any other sites anymore.

I'm about an hour and a half into it and so far liking it quite a bit.  You're not being constantly chased, there's an alert system that's a bit like GTA's star system.  I don't really know how the giant open-world aspect is, it kinda seems to encourage you to work it a sector at a time.  The building destruction pretty much carries the game, the world is very samey and the only reason to explore, it seems, is to find ore/special-crates that have lots of salvage in them, which you use to buy/upgrade weapons.  The friendly AI plays much more of a role then I thought it would based on the demo.  There's also special demolition missions where you're given certain items and environmental tools to destroy buildings in a certain time, and you can redo these over and over to improve your time, these are puzzle-esque.

I'm going to guess that GiantBomb will give this 5 of 5.

I'm about two hours in, and honestly it's kinda boring once I got over cool destructibility. The lack of color and activity in the world makes the game dreary.

I enjoyed the demo for RFG, but I'm very afraid it will seem way repetitive, ala Mercenaries.  That and I have yet to hear anyone say the story even matters, or that it incorporates any decent sci-fi at all.  Just blowing shit up is not nearly enough anymore imo.  Reviews are very good, but I need more gamer feedback b4 a purchase.

I've found the multi-player extremely fun so far. Lots of variety and a CoD4 style unlock system with new character models and such on there.

The game is grade-A awesome. The story sucks, but the physics and world design make the single-player a fucking blast. The only problem is that I have to tear myself away from the multiplayer to play it.

The multiplayer is on its own level. I played it for 4 straight hours last night. I love every game-type except for Capture the Flag, which sucks. Playing with good friends who coordinate with each other is a must though- I was in the same party of dudes all last night and I've only lost one game out of all the ones that we played. Coordination is serious business. Especially in Siege.

I did have a lot of fun in multiplayer actualy but sometimes I felt it was just a fraction too easy to just wreck a big building and make it useless. I liked the feeling of hiding out in a building or seeing a guy dart into one then place a few mines on the supports and see the whole building crash down on him. Really funny. Especialy with the jetpack. On one of the maps I flew up onto this tall tower like thing and started sniping off it but then some dude on my team smash the bottom of it and it felt like I was sitting at the top of a 40ft tree when an axeman comes up and whacks it and shouts TIMBER!!!

I am with you, Scooper, in enjoying the demos but unsure about the whole game. I think I will now, especially with Jayge's glowing recommendation. The only thing is, I have yet to buy inFamous. It will either be one or the other. For some reason, I am pushing for this game right now.

Got the full game yesterday.  Played about an hour of SP and MP each.

First major surprise was how HARD the SP was.  No, it's not really that hard by any means, but for an open world game it reminded me more of GTA3 than modern open world games.  You will get shot down and die, even on medium.  I actually started on hard and thought the first thing I'd do would be blow up the EDF's main location in the first area, WRONG.  I even set it to normal and it still took me like 3 tries to do it without dying.

The other major surprise for me in SP so far is how short the game may be?  The first main area is a little small, but I was able to completely clear out the area within an hour.  I don't mind a less drawn out open world game, and it may get a lot more involved as time goes on, who knows.

The MP is fun, although I've only played FFA modes so far.  It plays out like COD4 / WaW where you can only play a few modes from the start, but it doesn't take long to unlock other modes.  FFA is a bit more frustrating than I expected, but that might be because I care too much about stats.  I won 5 out of the 7 FFA rounds I played (maxes out at 6-8 players (I forget if it's 6 or 8)), but people put up a good fight.

It's definitely a great game, but I don't know if I consider it fantastic or amazingly great or anything like that.  Demos should give you a pretty good idea of the full game, but it seems like the full game starts off a bit slower on both the SP and MP side.

I hope Volition lease out their GeoMod 2.0 to other devs, a la UE3. It's pretty amazing.

Saints Row 2 also has those moments when the amount of enemies are too overwhelming. Too bad it's also the case in this game.

Finally a great Science Fiction Open World Action Game. Story Shmory... you're a guerrilla miner on mars starting an uprising. That is story enough. It can be challenging, but in a way that you know you can eventually take down that objective, because there are so many different ways you can go about it. Everything from the amazing physics engine, the immersive exploritory open world, mission structure and variety, weapon upgrades, vehicles, sound design and musical score, and most of all.... the Action Action Action is nothing short of AAA top notch.

I am about 6 hours into the campaign and for any fan of action games, this is a must buy!! Either for the fantastic single player or addictive multi... Do It.

The game is incredible. Even its multiplayer, which I was skeptical about, is really addictive. I'm really damn impressed and can't wait to get back to it. As in once I'm done writing this post.

5/5 from me. A little spice of DLC and patches would make me love this even more. Single-player was a blast, you can pretty much play the game how you want. Speaking of SP, if someone could help me out, I'm trying to figure out how to unlock all of the packs in single-player; all I got was the jetpack (wondering if you can get stealth, and the reconstructor weapon!).

Little gripes with the fact that you can't change out your default sledgehammer. I'm trying to make certain class types in SP, and I want to mix and match things. Another one is the fact that all these sweet aircraft are flying above, but as far as I know, you can't fly them. :(

I have RF:G for PS3, but may get for PC if people start modding for this game. Think of a Hulk mod, or Star Wars mod, or practically any other mod, this Geo-Mod 2.0 is fantastic for movie-like battles. More realistic/prefered mods would be tweaks and gameplay fixes, and new multi-player modes.

As for the MP portion, it would be nice to have a no time-limit setting, right now it's capped at 200 points or something and 30 minutes. But I guess that's how match making goes. I'm also curious to why there are no vehicles in MP. Framerate is smooth as butter 95% of the time. Maybe they had time constraints and are forging the DLC as we speak.

Well that is all, back to RF:G :)
(PSN:tekmojo if you want to play online, although I suck right now)

Agreeing that this game is a bunch of fun, i mean when is being able to drive a truck into a building not fun! My only criticism thus far is the static environment, i don't need to dig holes but i wish they did what BF bad company did and have pot holes and debris created from grenade and rocket explosions, i find that after bad company black stains are kindly of disappointing.

I'm about halfway in and I like it. Destroying things over the enemies heads is always cool and taking down the building they're in is awesome. My favorite guerilla action would be raiding and defending.

Bad things is that building are far between eachother and getting from your safehouse to the next mission sometimes takes allot of time.

I played the demo's loads. I just ordered the game today as I decided I need some full on Red Faction Action!

I love smashing the last pillar that's holding a building up while a few of the enemies are inside.

Should be playing on Xbox 360 in the next few days so hope to see some of you bombers in game!

    Still enjoying the game.

Had some cool AI/physics moments.  There's this big bridge control point you can blow up, I was working away at it with charges, breaking the road surface up.  It's creating so much smoke that I can't see across the bridge, who's coming or going, but the road surface is so shattered I figure no vehicles can get across.  So suddenly a civilian truck comes flying at me out of the smoke and runs me over.  It was a cool 'movie like' moment, I like how the AI reacted to the bridge.

15-16 hours if you're trying to do all of the guerrilla activities.  I'm having some trouble finding the last 7 I need to do though.

After playing through the single player & realizing that some of the achievements for this section aren't going to be finished by me anytime soon. Still stumped on how some of the transporter missions get half a minute taken off when the main bridge has been destroyed in the one area, that and some of the destruction puzzles still unsolveable. Apart from that there is one little nitpick I have with the last mission, I died about a dozen times trying to get up that mountain but died half way up. Finally switched the difficulty from normal to casual & managed to get up the hill after a few attempts where I just blew up myself or got nailed when not watching the vehicle health. This whole final mission reminded me of the one paraphrased quote from the anime Excel Saga 'I'm not bitter but goddamn'. Compared to the rest of the single player game that last mission seemed really unbalanced, love the rest of the game though & wondering how crazy the MP is with the ability to dissolve foes.  Highly recommended for everyone to try out this very solid game.
