A Worthy Add-on to a Fantastic Game
Demons of the Badlands is the first of three downloadable add-ons for Red Faction: Guerrilla. This one takes place three years before Red Faction: Guerrilla, and covers the story of Samanya (a female ally of Alec Mason). For $10, Demons of the Badlands adds quite a lot of content.
You have the three story missions, which I will go into in a second. These have the potential to be quite lengthy (depending on level of difficulty or player skill), with all three lasting somewhere around four hours. That's not it, however. There are eleven side missions, which provide a variety of challenges that were also in the main game. With the new additions in Demons of the Badlands, some of these missions prove to be quite entertaining (including several challenging and unique demolition events). Not to mention the new vehicles, weapons, collectibles (although who cares about that, really), and best of all new high and medium importance targets to be destroyed to the heart's content.
The first story mission is probably the shortest of the three. You are tasked with rescuing Vasha (Samanya's sister). With almost fully upgraded weapons from the start, the mission is relatively simple. EDF troopers are destroyed with fully upgraded armor, high ammo count, and powerful weapons. Not to say that it isn't enjoyable, though. The second mission gets more interesting. An assassination mission, where the enemies now also have the upgraded weapons and armor. This mission was really unique, as well, considering that none of the other missions did anything similar to this, either in the Demons of the Badlands or the main game.
The last mission is where it really all comes together. It is the longest of the missions, and a blast to go through. The mission essentially consists of Samanya destroying the entire EDF base, rescuing hostages, and then escaping in a huge tank, blowing up everything in sight. The missions all did an excellent job of refining the gameplay of Red Faction: Guerrilla, adding in minor touches that made the experience much better.
After completing the three main story missions, there still is a lot to do, but it really comes down to whether or not you enjoyed Red Faction: Guerrilla. If you loved the game, and you're craving more destruction, then Demons of the Badlands should satiate that, and $10 is a great price for all that is offered.
