    Red Faction: Guerilla

I love blowing shit up. I have a pro blowing shit up agenda. If stuff starts exploding, count me in. Red Faction: Guerrilla is great because it encourages destruction and provides satisfying options for demolition.

This game wants you to wreak havoc. You can use various explosives, crash through buildings in vehicles, and swing your sledgehammer. All structures can collapse, and when you cause them to, it feels great. Chip away slowly at the frame of a building or blast that sucker in one massive explosion. Your call, and all calls in this open world result in a sense of accomplishment. When you reduce a building to rubble, it leaves behind salvage which you can collect and use to buy more tools of destruction.

There are several types of weapons to use, but if a weapon didn't create a fiery ball of death, I didn't want to use it. Thankfully, I had a handful of options in this regard. My weapons of choice were remote charges, a rocket launcher and a stronger rocket launcher.

Explosions happen on your own terms. You have main missions and side missions to complete, which all supply variations on the theme of blowing shit up. It all makes sense in the context of the world, too: you’re on Mars trying to gain support of the rebels and reduce control of the oppressive Earth Defense Force. Blowing shit up accomplishes both goals, naturally. You can change things up and blow up dudes controlled by real people in the online multiplayer (where you can grab backpacks that grant superhuman abilities).

In Red Faction: Guerrilla you solve problems with explosions. You set those explosions off at your own pace and in whatever way you like. These aspects, which specifically cater to fans of explosions, make a great game.

Although Red Faction: Guerrilla will always be known first and foremost as a game about blowing stuff up, it should also be hailed for breaking the bonds of the open world genre. Don't get me wrong, the results of rocket-launching, bomb-laying and nano-reducing 99.9% of the objects on the terrain are an absolute blast to play with (no pun intended) and well worth the standard fare for a 360 title all by themselves. Surely the developers knew that this was going to be the best part of the game, s...

Red Faction: Guerrilla Review - Hey kid, you like explosions? 0

Personally, Red Faction: Guerrilla really flew in under my radar. I had never played the first two games for the PC and I really had no idea what to expect, but after playing the very short single player demo I picked up the game without reading a single review. And I am glad I did.At its roots, Red Faction: Guerrilla is all about blowing shit up - and it all blows up real good.Red Faction: Guerrilla places you in the space boots of one Alec Mason; nomad, brother, and mining engineer (meaning yo...
