Masachika Kawata, the producer of Resident Evil 5 has spoken to U.K magazine GamesTM recently. I this months issue Kawata-san was asked the now very old question - Would Resident Evil 5 work on the Nintendo Wii?

    He replied with the following:
Hypothetically speaking, the Resident Evil 4 engine would work perfectly for replicating the gameplay but we would never be able to recreate the graphical quality. A gun shooting game like Darkside Chronicles makes much more sense for Wii so, in short, Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition isn't likely to happen. Having said that, Cavia has surprised us with the quality of graphics in Darkside Chronicles, so it may actually be possible after all...

They could make an RE4-like game on the Wii if they really wanted to.

They basically said the same thing about SFIV Wii as well. I doubt a port will happen, but who knows, I guess Capcom of all people are known for ridiculous amount of ports.

I'm so confused.... is that a typo in the quote? RE4 is on Wii.

Also, as far as Rail shooters (Guided Experiences?) are concerned I think the Wii handles them perfectly. I've always thought moving and aiming felt odd on the Wii, and I guess the best way to remedy that is to simply make the moving automated.

I disagree because RE 4 was a lot of fun on the Wii and is better than any lightgun game they could ever make.

Apparently I'm more tired that I thought, hehe. Yeah, I dunno... the only problem would be that without it's pretty graphics it would be so much more obvious how little changed between 4 and 5. I'm fairly certain that RE4 sold well on the Wii though, so it seems like it would be a pretty safe call if they did decide to do it.

I don't see why he doubts it's possible. Resident Evil 5 felt like a re-skin of Resident Evil 4. Just lower the resolution of the textures, maybe cut down on how many enemies are on screen in some of those areas where you have all those zombies rushing you, and cut down (or remove) any dynamic lighting.

I mean, it just sounds like they're being lazy. Sure, it'll take a little work to go and change some of the graphical engine and render the textures in a smaller resolution, but Resident Evil 5 is perfectly possible on the Wii. I mean, the game doesn't have to be a 1:1 port.

Well obviously they want to protect the product - they dont want a Resident Evil 5 on Wii that turns out like Chop Til You Drop
