See, the thing about the older RE games is that they're not really very good unless you have nostalgia for them. Back in the day they were atmospheric and everything, but now...not so much. And they're kind of terrible to play.

Resident Evil 1 (not the GameCube remake) has amazing voice acting.

RE4 is fun. So is RE5.

That's what I have to say. There are plenty of people who will disagree with me, and say that the original games are great and everything, but really, you need the nostalgia to really enjoy them in this day and age.

If you can't handle tank controls don't even bother with the older games.

Basically, you should start with REmake as a gauge for how you can take Tank Controls. In addition to being the best "old style" Resident Evil, it is the one that perhaps most strongly ingrains the ideas of "avoid enemies and conserve ammo" which are pretty much the tactics you use throughout the series. I really like them, but I also blog about old games semi-regularly, so your level of tolerance may differ.

Also, I agree with : Code Veronica is crap. Awkwardly paced and backtrack heavy, not to mention being the definite start of Resident Evil changing from a B-horror type thing to a more action oriented perspective. People always seem to hate on RE:0 as the weakest, but I think that game is actually kind of great.

Really? The only difference is one cutscene where Wesker shows up, hits Claire, and then leaves before he can exercise any influence on the plot.

So if the people in your own kingdom revolt, you nuke mine for no reason?

You'd nuke a kingdom because they maybe had something to do with the fall of yours? You're a monster.

If you're starting out, it all depends on what interested you in the series. Do you like the behind the shoulder gameplay of 4 and 5, or did the gritty, close quarters of the earlier game draw you in?

I'd personally recommend going through them all, but RE4 would be the most logical since it's the best so far and the series is following suite.

Just posting to say THANK YOU!. I played RE1 on the PS1 and hated it. I've always wanted to get back into the series but I didn't want to actually play those games because of the horrible controls.

I think I'm going to watch these and start on RE4 HD.

@JoeyRavn: REmake for the GameCube is by far the best RE game, you should try that!
