While I appreciate what RE4 done to the series, and the genre as a whole, they still don't match the satisfaction I had with the old school titles. RE5, though... man, fuck that.
Resident Evil
Capcom's Resident Evil (or Biohazard in Japan) series continues to draw in players with its stories of hideous mutations and the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Inc. It is Capcom's best-selling franchise in terms of software sales.
Which Resident Evil do you like better
As much as I love RE4, I have to say RE2 was the pinnacle of the series. It took what was great about the first one and cranked up the awesomeness to 11. Bigger enviroment, some really fucked up baddies and bosses and an awesome array of guns. Definitely one of my favorite games of all time.
" Resident Evil: Outbreak and I don't give a fuck. "Oh baby yes! I gave that game an unhealthy amount of love. I remember reading my total time spent was like ''246 hours''... and this was the UK version so I never even had online play.
I never liked File 2 too much since the difficulty was brought up to ridiculousness =( But that was intended to be played with others, instead of yet again micro-managing and wiping the ass of your AI's.
" 4. The Wii version especially. It's not only the best Resident Evil, it's the best third-person shooter. "This.

What I wouldn't give to have them make a new Resident Evil: Outbreak game for the newer consoles.
And with the same tank-like controls as the old ones and they should bring the atmosphere back and the super scary stuff would be welcomed into my life with open arms.
I miss the time where RE games were actually freaking me out :(
Look at the remake of Resident Evil for the Gamecube, that thing was fantastic and kept the same gameplay as the original.
Fucking action shooters and parasite people :(
5 was meh.
I don't know why but I hated RE5 with a passion. I hate to say it but if any series needs a reboot it is Resident Evil.
RE4 was the first one I played properly because the others were too scary for me. I must of played through RE4 about 5 times altogether and loved it. Since I've gone back and played RE1 & 2 I'll say I think 2 is the best RE game ever made. I can't play RE4 any more. It's not for me any more if I try and go back to it.
" I don't know why but I hated RE5 with a passion. I hate to say it but if any series needs a reboot it is Resident Evil. "It's what CAPCOM are planning, apparently -- a reboot I mean. But this was also before they announced RE Revelations for the 3DS which is supposed to carry on the current storyline.. I don't even think CAPCOM knows what the fuck t do with the series.
Four is probably the best in terms of overall quality, but man, I love me some Resident Evil 5. Sure, they pretty much abandoned everything that makes a game a Resident Evil game, but I never liked the olde school RE games. They were boring, controlled poorly, had terrible camera angles, and weren't the least bit scary. The only redeeming value any of them had was the so bad it's good voice acting.
" @bartok said:I think a reboot could work. Not a full reboot but since umbrella is gone i could see someone trying to restart umbrella in a unknown location and star a new main character in a small town or city with a scary vibe." I spent a really long ass time with 5, so it gets my vote.
I realize the importance of 4, but it just didn't get as much play outta me.
The Old School RE games were definitely cheesy but they had atmosphere and novelty working for them. Of course my opinion might not count because I may be the only person that thought RE3 was the best of the PS1 games. Nemesis scared the shit out of me when I found out he could open doors and shoot you with a Rocket Launcher.
RE4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Out of the older ones my favorite is probably Code Veronica.
I will always have love for the old-school RE games. 2, 3, and REmake were especially amazing, with the latter being what I feel is the best in the series. RE4 is still an incredible game to this day, but I love that game for entirely different reasons than why I love the old ones. 5, as a Resident Evil game, is just a massive disappointment, though it's still undoubtedly fun to play.
The REmake on Gamecube is the best entry in the series. It has the strongest sense of atmosphere and really takes advantage of the Gamecube's power by using more diverse lighting effects than any of the previous entries. It also brought back the need to conserve items, something that was sorely lacking from Nemesis onward.
Oh and JESUS CHRIST CRIMSON HEADS ARE FUCKING SCARY.
