I've never played it myself but I've always enjoyed watching other people play the first one.

How do you feel about the Gamecube remake? Needless to say, but this was awesome. I played the original American release on the PSX and the remake on the Gamecube. I loved the remake. Seeing the uncut version of the original was awesome. Thanks for posting.

I have gotten to the point where I can finish Jill in around an hour without saving or dying on the DS, which is the exact same as the PSX version except loading screens and cutscenes can be skipped allowing for a slightly lower time. Needless to say, I really like the original Resident Evil.

REmake is definitely my favorite classic style RE game. It not only twists every puzzle or situation from the original game just enough to feel familiar yet screw with you, but also adds enough new stuff to make the experience fresh. In other words, it sets a standard for how a remake should be designed.

What about Resident Evil Zero then? I never played it, but was very interested.

@Claude: RE0 is generally disliked by the majority of RE "purists", but I actually like a lot. Partially because it doesn't look like ass (shallow I know, but RE 2 isn't the easiest game to look at), and also because it conveys the most amount of gloom and tension of any RE game I have played, especially because of the excellent soundtrack.

However, that doesn't mean that it isn't flawed. While the item system was actually made less clunky in that you can drop items at will without use of an item box, it causes some problems in certain situations where you have to get as many items as you can to the next area within your character's capacity (don't have room for that magnum ammo? Too bad). The partner system doesn't add anything, as the majority of the puzzles with two people just involve sending items back and forth with a service elevator instead of anything especially clever.  Oh, and Rebecca can't take that much damage before dying, which really sucks when there isn't much shotgun or grenade ammo lying around.

I recommend at least trying it out. I really enjoyed it.
