Rieko Kodama (小玉 理恵子 Kodama Rieko, born May 23, 1963 in Kanagawa, Japan) (also credited as Phoenix Rie, Phenix Rie, or Phoenix) was a video game designer and writer. She was involved with some of Sega's high profile projects, such as Alex Kidd, Sonic The Hedgehog, Shinobi, Skies of Arcadia, and other A-list games. She is perhaps best known for creating the Phantasy Star series, which played a major role in defining the template for console RPG's. Games such as Ninja Princess and Phantasy Star were also major milestones for female protagonists in video games.
