Still surviving, still great fun 2

"We shall draw from the heart of suffering itself, the means of inspiration and survival." -Winston Churchill With the release of the excellent 2013 Tomb Raider reboot we witnessed Lara Croft go through growing pains both inside and outside the game world. Even Nathan Drake would be surprised at how the same media so intent on fighting for gender equality would take the game to task over the most miniscule of details. Clouded in arbitrary controversy that questioned everything from how pretty t...

An incredibly fun adventure done right 0

Rise of the Tomb Raider is perhaps the most fun I've had with a game of this type since Uncharted 2, if not ever. In many ways it feels not only like a truly proper evolution of the first game; better in every single way it needed to be, but its gotten away from direct Uncharted comparisons and is competently offering its own kind of experience, at least regarding gameplay with a refinement and confidence I really hope continues to be expanded on even further in the next follow up as I absolutel...

It would be an honor to be buried in this tomb. 0

One year has passed since Lara Croft's experience on a desolate island that killed nearly all of her friends. She's struggling with the experience and finds herself becoming obsessed with her late father's work involving a very powerful artifact. This leads her to Siberia in search for answers on a new quest. -summaryThe sequel jinx definitely does not rear its ugly head here. Rise of the Tomb Raider is a vast improvement over 2013's Tomb Raider in just about every way. Not to say that the origi...

Beige Is the Warmest Colour 2

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a well oiled machine, where it’s many moving parts all fit together nicely and the whole thing runs smoothly doing exactly what it was meant to. Many years of practice and expertise have clearly been invested in the project, and yet, in spite of all the technical craft on display, it’s oddly soulless, and but for a few arresting visuals feels like an almost academic exercise in generic game design. It’s competent, well produced, and yet lacking in ins...

A Steep Rise in Quality 0

While many enjoyed the 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider, I was not a big fan of it. I can admit that it was a well-made product, but the different elements of the game just never really came together. Even those who liked the game often admit the narrative that largely focused on 21-year old Lara Croft's transformation into a hardened survivor clashed with gameplay that often felt so close to Uncharted you could palette swap Lara with Nathan Drake. This has often been summarized by a set of sequences ...

Rise of the Tomb Raider Review 0

The adventures of Lara Croft have never been as fun or looked as good as they do in the latest release from Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics, Rise of the Tomb Raider. What Rise of the Tomb Raider offers is a brilliantly paced third person action adventure game that’s packed with side content both rewarding and enjoyable to complete. While I adored the previous release in the series, Crystal Dynamics have managed to improve upon the formula in every imaginable way to deliver one of the mos...

    Baba Yaga DLC review 0

Rise of the Tomb Raider's first DLC loses itself amongst glitches and poor quest design. The sequel's first DLC already has one thing in it's favor over any of the DLC for the 2013 reboot: single-player content. Unfortunately, Baba Yaga feels like all of it's resources were put into a couple -admittedly cool- set pieces, when what it really needed was some more time in QA. I found more bugs - animation glitches while exploring, getting trapped in areas where there was no way out except to loa...

This game rose above its predecessor to create a even better experience. 0

The introduction flashback actually takes place in Syria before sending the player back to Siberia for the rest of the game. Following up a fantastic reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise is no easy task. Yet Eidos managed to add enough new things to make a good game into a great one. The story picks up a year after the last game with Laura looking into what her dad was working on before he died. This leads her to do a small globetrotting adventure in search of the city of Kitezh. Which is just a...

Constant Plateau of the Tomb Raider 0

Rise of the Tomb Raider is another example of the bland, big budget game. While the combat can occasionally be a little too loose, the climbing and exploration gameplay is engaging and the set pieces are exciting, if perhaps too empty of actual interactivity. The story is sincere, but completely wooden and uninteresting, though it manages to drive the game along adequately. The extra collectibles are almost entirely meaningless (save for the quite interesting Hidden Tombs, which each provide a u...

Rise of The Tomb Raider Indeed.... 0

It incorporates every thing that made the first one great and improves upon them immensely. Also the 20 year edition on PS4 bundles together roughly 50$ worth of DLC's and includes them for one low price. It is a must have for any PS4 owner! My score is... ****1/2 [4.5/5.0]...

Succeeding just as much as she stumbles, Lara Croft is back on the case 0

With a title like Rise Of The Tomb Raider, you might think this would be the first game in it's series, however you would be mistaken. As a sequel to the 2013 surprise hit (at least for me, personally) Tomb Raider, the second game seeks to build on the new direction for stalwart video game icon Lara Croft. Back are voice actor Camilla Luddington as Lara and Rhianna Pratchett as the lead writer, back are the white ledges letting you know where to climb, back is the gravitas and weight given to ta...

Rise of the Tomb Raider - A fun ride! 0

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a welcomed followup to this much deserved reboot of a trashy franchise. It starts strong, constantly evolves and does not overstay its welcome.I've always been a fan of Indiana Jones and wilderness survival so I was very happy to see this franchise rebooted with something a little more realistic then what came before. While it does not change the successful Uncharted formula too much, it tweaks it in just the right way to offer something palatable to a guy tiring of th...

Rise of the Tomb Raider 0

To be honest right up front , the 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider was the first TR game I had ever played. I thouroughly devoured that game, beating it multiple times and on different platforms and difficulties. I came at this game with high hopes, probably a little unfairley high, but that said overall I Enjoyed Rise of The Tomb Raider .The aspects I loved about the reboot are still in place, the crafting (satisfyingly improved), the challenge tombs, Lauras inner dialouge and interaction between he...

Rise of the Tomb Raider 0

This game is one of the most improved sequels I can remember playing in recent memory. The first game was fine, an enjoyable action game and perfectly fine way to spend some time. This game is something I will recommend strongly to friends who enjoy the genre, and something that offers such fun and dynamic gameplay that I want to talk about the game and hear about others' experiences. I'll remember this one!The story is a huge huge huge improvement over the first game, with collectibles unveili...

Why not put the Tomb Raider franchise to rest in a tomb of its own already? 0

Rise of the Tomb Raider improves upon its predecessor, Tomb Raider (2013), most noticeably in replay value. Otherwise, Rise of the Tomb Raider is identical to the previous game for better or worse. Crystal Dynamics has progressed Lara Croft’s character development by unraveling her family secrets and introducing new villains. Yet, we’e seen this all before not only in the previous outing, but in cinema as well.Camilla Luddington returns as Croft for voice-overs and performs all the m...
