A major improvement that will go unnoticed.
Developers of the gothic series have attempted again with the fantasy vibe. While it feels like it's becoming the next WWII of video games. That hasn't stopped developed from making Risen, which is a improvement and large step in the right direction for the developers, but not quite enough to launch it to main status.
In a market being flooded with these types of games, it's essential for a fantasy game to stand out or be another title. It can be hard to recommend these types of games when you have something like Oblivion, which is super cheap and still impressive with this fast growing market.
However, with each step this game takes in thr right direction, there's one step backwards holding it back from being a must have title. While you'll explore a beautiful and dangerous island, riddle with very well done and joyful quests, the combat, which is essential if your going to play this game for many hours, is underwhelming, to say the least. The citizens and voice acting are well done and very convincing, but the story is noting special and it might take people a few hours to actually get involved.
Just like Gothic 3, it seems with each game the developers release, they either seem to be lazy in their bug fixing department, or feel it's apart of their game. The game has quite a few technical glitches that can get annoying sometimes but shouldn't happer your gameplay too much.
Despite some technical problems, and clunky combat, Risen still has a great adventure to take you through and if your a fantasy fan, looking for the next Oblivion fix, this just might tide you over until the next best thing comes out.
