Overview
Rob Halford is an English musician, singer and songwriter best known as the lead singer of the heavy metal band Judas Priest. Widely known for his operatic vocal range and leather-clad image, Halford has often been nicknamed as the "Metal God".
Music Career
Early Judas Priest (1974 - 1990)
Sometime in the early 1970s, Halford was introduced into Judas Priest bassist and co-founder Ian Hill by his sister Sue, who was dating Hill at the time. Halford, who was then a manager at a clothing store, joined the band as a singer.
In 1974, Judas Priest released their debut album Rocka Rolla. Halford continued to front Judas Priest throughout the 1970s and 1980s, releasing several noteworthy albums such as Stained Class, British Steel, Screaming For Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith and Ram It Down.
By 1990, Halford emerged with a new appearance of tattoos and began shaving his head. It was around this time that Judas Priest experienced legal troubles concerning alleged subliminal messages in their previous albums, which was rumored to have caused the suicide of two young men. Not long after the release of Painkiller, Halford left Judas Priest to form a solo act after encouragement from fellow bandmates. He was temporarily replaced by Tim "Ripper" Owens.
Judas Priest Reunion (2003 - present)
In July 2003, Halford returned to Judas Priest, and embarked on a tour the following year to celebrate his return. The band subsequently released two albums, Angel of Retribution and Nostradamus in 2005 and 2008 respectively.
Game Appearances
Due to his success in the music industry, Rob Halford was asked to do voice overs in Brutal Legend, along with Ian Kilmister and Ozzy Osbourne. As a joke, General Lionwhyte, the character he voices, has supernaturally long and flowing hair, while Halford himself is known for being bald. In addition, the characters Lars Halford and Lita Halford were named after Rob.
