A short and fun side scroller

I remember playing the demo for this a while ago. The cartoon visuals left a impression on me but I never got around to playing it till now. As you might be able to infer by the title you play as one badass chicken commando. Who has taken up a duty to destroy a evil penguin regime that has taken over the world. To do this the player will need to guide our hero through 12 episodes full of shooting and a bit of jetpaction. Ah I felt like I just wrote a back of a box blurb.

Taking over rocket troops to blow everyone else up is a delight.

Anyway the first thing you will notice about this game is its cartoon aesthetic. This is also aided by the fact they mixed music with visuals to tell the story most of the time instead of spoken diaglouge. Which gives the story a unique feel even if it is rather basic. Taken without the extra gameplay systems the standard loop is really simple. All you do for most of the game is roll around a bunch while also shooting all of the enemies whenever they let their guard down.

Oh no a jetpack welding chicken is going to blow us up! Hit the giant ALARM! button!

Luckily they mix up the action a bit with jet pack levels and the brain bug power up. The jet pack levels have a lot more maneuverability with the focus still being on shooting everything. Also most enemies in this game are easy to shoot at since it is on a 2-D plain although they do make it a bit harder with different enemy types later on in the story mode. While the brain bug lets the player take over enemies and use them to solve puzzles.

On the negative side of things this game is kinda short. I was able to play through this game in about 4 hours. Even the additions they added for the Vita version didn't improve the game in any way. One just lets the player move the camera with the motion controls while the other one uses the back touchscreen to toss grenades. Which only really made me never want to use grenades since it takes so long to toss them. Overall I enjoyed my time with this game. It may not do anything new with the visuals/gameplay but it is a fun little game to play. If your looking for a action based sidescroller this one is at least worth checking out.
