    Rockstar Games are a game developer and publisher responsible for some of the most successful, controversial, and innovative games in the industry. They are best known for producing series like Grand Theft Auto, Midnight Club, and Max Payne and for their ground-breaking work in open world games.

    The label was founded in 1998 by Sam Houser, Dan Houser, Terry Donovan, Jamie King and Gary Foreman, and have since become a division of Take-Two Interactive. Over the years, the company has grown and is now home to 10 individual studios that, as of May 2011, have released 45 games.

    Rockstar Operated Studios

    Rockstar NorthRockstar's flagship studio, previously known as DMA Design, responsible for the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
    Rockstar LincolnBased in England, currently serves as Rockstar's dedicated software localization and quality assurance facility.
    Rockstar TorontoPrimarily handles porting for Rockstar's cross-platform games, also created The Warriors game.
    Rockstar VancouverClosed in 2012. Previously known as Barking Dog Studios, created Bully for the PlayStation 2.
    Rockstar ViennaClosed in 2006, previously known as neo Software Produktions GmbH , created most of Manhunt 2, also ported various Rockstar games cross-platform.
    Rockstar San DiegoPreviously known as Angel Studios, best known for the Midnight Club series, created the Red Dead franchise, and also created the versatile R.A.G.E. engine.
    Rockstar LeedsPreviously known as Mobius Entertainment, ports and creates games for handhelds.
    Rockstar JapanResponsible for Japanese localization.
    Rockstar LondonNew studio, finished work on Manhunt 2, ported Midnight Club LA to PSP.
    Rockstar New EnglandAcquired on April 4, 2008, previously known as Mad Doc Software, ported Bully to PC and Xbox 360.

    R.A.G.E

    The Rockstar Advanced Game Engine is an all-encompassing game engine developed by the RAGE Technology Group at Rockstar San Diego, with contributions from Rockstar North. The engine was designed for the PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and the Wii.

    The engine is based off the Angel Game Engine, also by Rockstar San Diego, which was used for Playstation 2 and Xbox era games in the Midnight Club series.
