Yawn
Richard Marchinko has written a veritable ton of books about his military exploits. It is a bit surprising that a game on his books hasn't been done until now. Our next goal, though, should be for a good game to be made based on the books.
In this title, you play Marchinko, apparently the baddest dude in history and founder of counter-terrorism squad Seal Team Six. And your goal is to stop nukes in North Korea. As the game starts, your mission goes quite poorly and you have to basically track the missiles thru North Korea and eventually the USSR in the midst of the Cold War.
One thing every review notices, and trust me that you can't miss it, is that Mickey Rourke swears to a comical level. Goodfellas had less profanity. I don't mind language that much, but it gets a bit much. And it is delivered in a way that makes Tobey Maguire's work for the Spider-Man 3 game seem energetic.
The game itself is a thankfully short affair where you play a mean version of Rambo. The game is competent if not visually consistent. The character models look solid but the environments look a bit last-gen. The snow effects are nice, but this is one short and linear affair. The game does pay some lip service to the "one man against an army" story by making missions much easier if you avoid alerting enemies to your presence. This is achieved via some pretty gruesome stealth kills. You will eventually alert people and the difficulty ramps the hell up with the usual cheap enemy AI, but before that happens, it is a cake walk.
I didn't find the game as bad as most because I rented it. And the game is a rental. It is not remotely worth buying. I've played worse games, such as Avatar, but the game just isn't that great.
