Rollercoaster Tycoon World takes the basic ideas behind Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and brings them into a modern setting. The game features new 3D visuals (unlike the isometric perspective in the first and second game, as well as the ability to ride the coasters. World also features a new free-form coaster designer, allowing players to easily click and drag to create coasters with ease. After beta feedback in October 2015, the developer delayed the game, and worked to add a piece-by-piece track editor similar to those found in the previous games.
Rollercoaster Tyoon World would first be released as an early access game on the Steam platform. On November 16, 2016, the game was released for $60 USD. Less than a week later, the game would cut its price to $35 USD due to negative reviews and to be competitive with the Planet Coaster, a rival them park simulator that was released on November 17, 2016 for $45 USD.
