Compatibility with Modern Operating Systems
By default the Saints of Virtue game installation uses a Windows 95 runtime module (WVRUN.EXE) that is not compatible with modern Windows operating systems. However, the installation directory for the game also includes a DOS runtime module (VRUN.EXE) which can be run through an emulator like DOSBox. Allowing you to run the game on any operating system DOSBox supports, including platforms the engine was never designed for, such as MacOS.
Gameplay Issues on Modern Machines
Like many older games, Saints of Virtue was designed to run at a certain CPU clock speed. So running the game at full speed on a modern, high powered computers will cause issues. The most prominent being extremely high jumping (so much so that you hit your head on the ceiling!) and very slow rate of fire with certain weapons. To fix this you'll need to limit the game's frame rate or CPU cycles. In DOSBox limiting CPU cycles to 50000 is a good starting point, but further experimentation and testing with this may be needed for optimal performance.
