I'm half a click away from getting Saints Row 2 for $5 from Direct2Drive, but I have read the PC port isn't so great. Can any PC players comment to say if any of the bugginess, framerate issues, etcetera have been patched out since the game's launch?

i personally didnt like the game itself, found it to be a shitty GTA clone. but as a port i did not have any problems with it and it went smooth. if you like the game, go get it.

@Ahmad_Metallic: Would you mind posting your machine specs? I'm going to be running it on some pretty modest hardware.

It hasn't been updated since February. Here's what I have:

    4GB DDR2 RAM
    nVidia 8800 GTS 640MB DDR3
    Intel E6600 Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz

Once you start driving in that game it becomes a slide show, even with all of the settings turned to their lowest allowed (then it looks just like San Andreas). I actually found the game ran smoother the higher I turned my settings up (yea, crazy). However, some people with worse systems have said that the game ran perfectly for them, while others have said it's been completely unplayable.

I really recommend getting the 360 version if you really want the game.

@PureRok: If you're having problems, I'm guessing it will be unplayable for me. Thanks for the feedback.

There has been two patches for the game thus far, here are the fixes:

    • General performance increase around 20%. Note that this will vary depending on the both computer specifications and game settings
    • 3rd Party controller scrolling issue has been fixed
    • Corrected various crashes reported across all versions
    • Corrected a crash in "Drive-By" Diversion for Danish version
    • Corrected a crash in "Streaking" Diversion for Spanish version
    • Removed original frame cap of 32 FPS
    • New variable frame cap has been implemented. This will smooth out spikes in overall framerate
    • Players may notice a small hitch when crossing into new chunks in the world. The amount of time for this has been reduced for recommended spec machines, but may still be noticeable, particularly while driving at high speeds

it's up to you to decide whether to get the game or not now.

Runs like crap on my system. It is also the only game that crashes. I run GTA4, Crysis, Farcry 2, Mass Effect, and other games perfectly.

Considering my system specs are not quite as good as anyone posting so far, I think I may have to pass this up even though $5 seems like a steal.

I have the game and it's patched, it doesn't run well at all. It's playable, however it runs quite aweful at times. For only $5 maybe it's worth it, however don't expect to run it well at all. I think these types of sandbox style games runs better on quad cores, not dual cores just like gta4 which requires alot of calculations for all the stuff going on the screen. If you have a console, I would recommend you getting the game on that since I rented the game on consoles and it ran alot better. It also only uses widescreen resolutions and crt monitor resolutions, which doesn't go well with my pc lcd monitor. Worst port ever.

@raddevon I took the plunge last night on STALKER and Saints Row 2. STALKER was a no brainer, but like you, I had trouble with the decision on SR2. Anyways, I have a quad core, so I will update how it runs with that.
