The last Saint's Row game I bought was 3, and the last one Iiked was 2. I didn't play 4, so I'm hoping 5 gets around to something that's worth next-gen, and hopefully somewhere in between 2 & 3 absurdity. If its something more like crazy like 3 was, it'd be cool to posses people, or have crazy demonic powers and ouija stuff could be cool.

.. An image, which you can see below, was released alongside the slogan "Something wicked this way comes..." as Saints Row developer Volition prepares to announce its latest project.

Speculation is rife that Saints Row 5 will be announced this weekend, though some people have been thrown for a loop by the presence of the number six on the image. It's worth noting that "666" is the Number of the Beast from the New Testament and, coupled with what looks like a Ouija Board in the image, suggests we could be seeing a slightly darker tone this time around. As if purple dildos guaranteed to cause internal bleeding weren't dark enough.

When we spoke to Volition's Jim Boone, he gave us some idea of what we may see in future Saints Row titles, though it sounds like it won't be long before we find out for sure. Certainly something's in the works, as voice actor Jay Mohr confirmed he's back recording lines for a new title late last year. ..

Anywho, what improvements/features do you guys want to see in SR5? I wouldn't' mind seeing a collector's edition with a stake included in the box. Massive gang drive-bys and vampires would be nice, and minotaurs? Dunno.

Of course the occult is the direction they would take. It makes perfect sense, when you think about it.

Taking the "Bogus Journey" route? There's not a whole lot else left after you've conquered space and time, I suppose.

If they go this route and don't have an extended boss battle with a spectre set to the Ghostbusters theme I will be sorely disappointed.

I don't even know what I want out of a Saints Row game at this point. I really liked 3. 4 seemed cool, but I didn't care enough to play it. Part of me wants them to tone the insanity down, but part of me also wants them to keep going even further in that direction.

Honestly though, I think I'd like to see Volition stretch their wings a bit and get away from Saints Row.

At this point I'm pretty sure Saint's Row has become the de facto "video games parody." It always had that bent to it, but with each successive title they've been bolting on more and more parodies of other games/genres/franchises. To be honest, I like it. The MGS homage in SR4 was fantastic and I am completely okay with Saint's Row 5 being some weird paranormal thing.

Same, I enjoy the Saints Row games but 4 felt like a good cap to the series for a while. Ah well, I'm not against more SR or anything.

Whatever I want or don't want from this, I just hope they don't get too... Scary Movie with the comedy. If you start to bring supernatural elements into the game which of course is heavily implied then I'd hate to see a mission where its along the lines of "Hey, there are some vampires and werewolfs fighting, go choose a side, the leader of the vampires is called uhm, uhh Kaystew HUHUHUHHUU" And then they get a really wooden actress to play the part because, HUHUEHUHEUHEUHUEHUE and there is a new energy drink they sponsor called False Blood or something. Just, just don't have the humor be shit, that is all I want from this, it is a very easy rabbit hole to fall down.

Oh man, I'd love if they basically just do one giant parody of horror games. Have a segment that's fitted with camera angles and tank controls and shit!

I could get behind Saints Row going in a Doom or Diablo direction.

Please, please be the game I'm picturing in my head right now. SR with a horror comedy bent could be fantastic. I just hope they don't feel the need to "top" SR4. You can't go too much zanier than 4 without it just being a complete jumble of nonsense.

I am intrigued. The third and fourth games did a good job with poking fun at everything from action movies to aliens to game tropes, so I would really enjoy a take on the occult / horror game tropes. Now, not every joke in those games was effective, but more often than not I found myself laughing at and appreciating what they were doing.

After seeing this, I just want to see the Saints take on ghosts, demons, chupacabras, bigfoots… feets… whatever, Satan, the Jersey Devil, Mothman, Mothra, Satan worshippers, vampires both Nosferatu-like and sparkly, sentient slime monsters, Minotaurs, Minotaurs in lucha masks, Minotaurs in BDSM gear, haunted toilets, Fluke-men, witches both ugly and sexy, warlocks both ugly and sexy, Cthulu, Cthulu cultists, Frankenstein monsters… oh and gang members, obviously.

Well this certainly looks interesting. For some reason I wasn't able to really get into the last game, so a new direction sounds good to me.

I've only play 1 and 3 and only liked 1, but if this goes all occult, I'm in.

I don't care particularly much about Saint's Row. I don't find playing the games super fun to be honest. They aren't really that challeging and the controls really aren't that satisfying. The humor has always been hit or miss with me, so that alone isn't enough to carry the game for me.

That said I fuckin' love horror movies and I have a softspot for cheap slashers from the 80's and 90's plus late 90's survival horror games like the first 3 Resident Evil games, with tank controls and locked camera angels and all that shit, were the best back in the days. So if they go in that direction I might be interested. But I think it would have been even cooler if this was a completely new game. Besides I thought they wanted to take a break from SR?

You can't really top the amount of crazy that was in SR IV, so going in another direction would make sense. This is a direction I am fully in favor of them going.

During a PAX panel Volition just announced a new Saints Row. It's called Saints Row: Gat out of Hell, and it'll be out on January 27th for $19.95. It's standalone expansion pack for Saints Row IV in which you play as Gat or Kinzie. It's coming to current and last-gen consoles, as well as PC

I really want to see Volition do something new. It's nice to know that this isn't a full-fledged sequel they've been working on this whole time. According to Kotaku, The Boss will be in the game and if you own the main game you can import your save so that The Boss looks and sounds like the one you played.

Huh, that only makes it all the weirder. I have to assume you'll at least get to customise Gat/Kinzie's wardrobe. I'd hate for them to completely remove all of the customisation options associated with Saints Row.
