8-bit nirvana at 10 bucks count me in!
Every once in a while I usually beg moan to the gaming gods to send me a game that brings me back to the glory days of River City Ransom and Final Fight. Now here's a gem of a game that has hooked me from start to it's finish. Scott Pilgrim is a your average Canadian teenage loser who finally has met a girl that he is smitten over. Now you may think this romantic comedy can't possibly make for a great game but the catch to this girl, Ramona Flowers, is that she has 7 evil ex-boyfriends that Scott must defeat to win her heart. Now you may ask, "How's the actual gameplay?" Well, it's old school beat 'em up action at it's prime as Scott and friends fight against hipsters, robots and aliens to name a few. The graphics are beautiful as it brings back memories of the NES and the audio is fantastic as the music is remixed beautifully and it's very very catchy. Now with all this praise there are issues:
1. NO ONLINE play, I seriously hope for a free online coop patch b/c this game is deserves it.
2. The game is very hard even on the "Average Joe" difficulty this game will kick your ass if you are careless. This is even more present in some of the later on stages as they drag on and the final boss is a doozy.
Overall this is hands down one of the best arcade games of this year and shouldn't be missed by anyone who's looking for a great mixture of style and substance.
