Game Appearances
Seattle Sounders FC first played in the 2009 season, but joined the league too late to be included in FIFA 2009. EA was almost assuredly pressured by Microsoft, whose XBOX 360 brand was the main sponsor of the team, into adding the Sounders as Downloadable Content.
The Sounders were included in the initial lineup of teams in FIFA 10. Unfortunately, the game does not include Qwest Field, home of the Sounders and the 2009 MLS cup.
The Sounders organization has twice given out promotional codes for XBOX 360 users to equip their avatars with Sounders jerseys.
Sounders History
The first team to call itself the Seattle Sounders arrived as a North American Soccer League back in 1974. The team enjoyed success and a top attendence level almost every year. Unfortunately, when the league closed down only a few years later, the Sounders went down with it.
The Sounders were reintroduced in the USL, a lower level league, in the 1990s, and were again successful. Stars like Sebastian Le Toux and Roger Levesque paved the way to sustained winnning for a few years, before the team was liquidated in anticipation of a MLS club.
When the Seattle Sounders FC became the 15th team to join Major League Soccer, the team started fast out of the gate. In its first season, the side went on to win the Lamar Hunt Trophy, awarded to the best team in the United States for reaching the end of the US Open Cup. They made the playoffs in their first season and set a number of attendence records, becoming one of the top 50 clubs in support worldwide.
In 2010, the club has brought in even more fans, forcing the front office to expand the capacity of the stadium. Success wasn't as immediate as in the team's inaugural season, but they led the league in attendance, won the US Open Cup, and made the playoffs again. Freddie Ljungberg was traded to Chicago midway through the season, but the Sounders replaced him with Swiss Striker Blaise Nkufo.
2011 marked the return of Seattle rivals Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers.
