Overview
RingEdge (also known as Sega RingEdge) is an arcade system board developed and used by Sega for most of their arcade releases in the 2010's. First released in 2009 with Border Break, the RingEdge is the direct successor to Sega's PC (Platform)-based Lindbergh board and includes a variety of upgrades (such as replacing hard-disk drives with quicker solid-state drives, switching the operating system to Windows Embedded Standard 2009, and supporting full HD video resolutions). It was later superseded by the Nu board. Three variations of the board exist: the standard RingEdge, the lower-end RingWide, and the higher-end RingEdge 2. Each of them use a different hardware configuration:
- The RingEdge variant uses an Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160 model (dual-core at 1.8 GHz) for its CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce 8800GS model (w/ 384 MB GDDR3 VRAM) for its GPU, a 1 GB DDR2-800 SDRAM for memory, and a 32 GB SSD for storage.
- The RingWide variant uses an Intel Celeron 440 model (single-core at 2.0 GHz) for its CPU, an ATI Radeon HD 2000 series model (w/ 128 MB GDDR3 VRAM) for its GPU, a 1GB DDR2-667 SDRAM for memory, and a 8 GB CompactFlash card for storage. Unlike the standard RingEdge, it only includes one video port (DVI).
- The RingEdge 2 variant, released in 2011, uses an Intel Core i3-540 model (dual-core at 3.07 GHz) for its CPU, an NVIDIA GeForge GT 545 model (w/ 1 GB GDDR5 VRAM) for its GPU, a 2 GB DDR3-1333 SDRAM for memory, and a 32 GB SSD for storage. It is backwards compatible with earlier RingEdge games and supports digital distribution with the ALL.Net P-ras MULTI Version 2 (APM2) service. StarHorse 3 is unique for using 4 GB of memory and 64 GB of storage.
