No, more than that. I may end up killing my self in the future.

Why did I die a little? Just read that Kotaku article.
This game was not meant for cinema, was not meant for books, it was meant for a game. It is blasphemous to adapt it to film, as it can only do harm, epsecially considering the team behind it. People are going to watch this, and think that THIS is SotC. I can't bear this thought.
    I'm going to go cry.

Great news. I can't wait for them to adapt Pong next.

    Yep.

This is why I say that any adaptations at all are bad. Because then this shit happens.

Oh ffs - Responsible for The scorpion king and legend of chun li

AND THEY ARE LETTING THE TOUCH MY SHADOW?!?!?!?!?

Fuck those guys, i bet out of the people that reply ot this thread we could make a far better film than this destined to be a fuckup travesty could ever be.

This is terrible, whenever i hear someone talk about shadow or mention it -i usually get the impression they know what they are on about, the kind of people that played shadow are the kind of people i find it easy to interact with - and appreciate games etc.
Now the kind of people talking about shadow are going to be the same people who watched The scorpion king and liked it.

I'm not even a big fan of Shadow of the Colossus. But I'm still appalled by this.

Ugh. I'm with you. Shadow of the Colossus should never be made into a movie, especially not by them.

The same guy that starred as Dr. Moreau in The Island of Dr. Moreau...
...also played Vito Corleone in The Godfather.

The same producer that made produced Hudson Hawk, Cradle 2 Tha Grave, and Speed Racer...

The same guy that produced Deep Impact and The Flintstones...

Hm...I guess it could work. But they would need to pull most of the movie from before the actual game starts for it to be compelling, imo. I'll give it a chance...but I'm pretty sure it will suck.

Producers are never a bad example.  In actuality, the producers are the ones with more of the vision than the director is.  The director's job is to block the scene, rehearse the scenes, and shoot the scenes.  Hell, the DP has more control over the general LOOK of a film than the director does.  Guys like Joel Silver, Arnon Milchan, and Frank Marshall get far more respect from me than most directors...as without them and the level of confidence they have in a piece of work, you wouldn't get most of the amazing movies we've seen.

All I'm trying to say is this:  yes, the past work of these guys may not be stellar, but at the same time, the examples that were given are also projects that the studio would have FAR more control over than the directors and/or writers.

So I try not to discount anyone unless I see some kind of trailer and/or stills that would make me believe otherwise...like Dragonball: Evolution.

Besides, at least it's not Uwe Boll.

Point well made. I was being a little short sighted. Although in my defence there are at least some directors who are a major part of the creative force and such.

Shadow of the colossal turd.... boom!

The gameplay is core to the experience in sotc, as well as being able to slow down, explore and take in the scenery and atmosphere. It's so rare in games to use the medium so effectively. It will never translate completely into film. This is sacrilege.

Look on the bright side, at least it's gonna introduce more people to the game. And if there's any game worthy of more attention it's Shadow of the Colossus.

Hopefully it's animated. Hand-drawn. That's the only way I can see this being anything more than a monumental fuck up.

I'd understand if they turned it into an anime type movie, akin to Princess Mononoke and Akira. That could actually be good. But no, they had to give the greatest game of all time a Hollywood adaptation.

Shadow of the Colossus is the greatest representation of art in any medium of the 21st century so far. Its name doesn't deserve to be butchered like this. It's not like Shadow of the Colossus is all that popular, either. It sold very well, around a million copies, but that doesn't justify a movie. I tell my friends Shadow of the Colossus is my favorite game; they have no idea what the crap it is. I am seriously pissed off, and I knew Fumito Ueda and the rest of Team ICO didn't (and won't) have any say in this.

Remember the deep story in the game?  I mean come on, it's full of narrative.  There was the beginning....and then you fought a lot of big things...and then the thing with the horse....and then the fight with the bigger thing...and then the end.  BEST STORY OF ANYTHING EVER IN THE HISTORY OF EVERYTHING!!!

BoG, the good news is it doesn't mean it'll actually happen. I've seen reports of Crazy Taxi and Pac-Man being made into movies, and those never happened...

However, in the case of Shadow of the Colossus... I think it has a greater chance of actually happening. For a moment I stopped and thought about how cool the Colossi might look in a movie, then I suddenly realized how horrible and disgraceful of a movie it would turn out to be. Let's hope it doesn't happen.

Jeez, I've never played SotC...but I know what it's all about, and you're right...it's not meant for the theater.  I bet movie studios are just shopping around for games that look like they could be adapted well into movies, because that seems to be big now...that and comic book/graphic novel movies.  Just because you can do it doesn't mean it's a good idea.  And of all the games to choose, why this one?  I'm sure it's a great game...I've always wanted to play it, but it just seems like a strange choice, it's a fairly obscure title.  it's weird that they're making this, yet so far I've heard nothing about a Gears of War movie...and that Halo movie really hasn't materialized into anything.  Not that I want a Gears or Halo movie, but those are probably the best-known games because they're known even outside the gaming world.  I thought the King of Fighters movie was a weird idea, but this is even stranger.

Woah. SoTC had a fantastic story, but that's because of its minimalism. It's pretty much a fairy tale with an awesome setting and no real words.
That wouldn't make a good movie either.

Woah. SoTC had a fantastic story, but that's because of its minimalism. It's pretty much a fairy tale with an awesome setting and no real words.
That wouldn't make a good movie either.

I could not disagree more.  The game was beautiful, clever, and overall fantastic.  However, the story was stupid, and extremely contrived to the extent that they were just looking for anything they could to justify killing all these big ass things in an otherwise empty wasteland.  You come into the place with a girl and are then proceed to ignore her completely until the last 10 minutes of the game.  And then at the end they decided:  "Alright, how do we end this?  Okay lets tie this into Ico somehow."  People see the artful setting and minimalistic story, and come to think of it as amazing.  When that thing with the horse happened (no spoilers), I couldn't care less other than thinking "oh well then I guess this is the last Colossus."  I love the hell out of this game and still play through it every now and then.  But the story is practically nonexistant and fans who like the game's arty....ness are tricking themselves into thinking the story was any good at all.  Sorry, but I gotta be harsh on this one.

    @Red & Shadow

The story left me feeling pretty empty.  I mean, I know why he was killing the colossi, but I don't know WHY he was killing the colossi.
This is still why I prefer Ico to SotC.  Obviously, he's doing it out of love, but the game doesn't show you how much he loved her.  In order to get in the proper mindset for the game, you'd have to think about something comparable in your own life, and that takes you out of being immersed in the game.  In Ico the relationship was not only shown, but actually built in-game.
Same problem with the horse.  The bond is not shown or built in-game, so the player just takes it for granted as a game-play mechanic.
So the gameplay might be better in SotC, but the story / immersion is better in Ico.

SotC movie seems to be going for the wow-them-with-special-effects instead of a solid story.

You didn't care for Agro? Agro was your only real ally in this. He was there through thick and thin. When a colossi was charging at you, he was just an "X" button away. He was your bro. He was your only friend. When the thing happened, I nearly cried. Horse or no horse, the game made me care. I liked the ending, it was kinda confusing, but I liked it. When Agro...did a thing...in the ending, that just took it. I cried.

I'm not saying the story is incredible. It's not much of a story. The thing that makes Shadow of the Colossus so good is the fact that it makes you care. You're left with guilt when a colossi dies, you're happy when the booming music comes in, you feel what Wander feels.

While it's definitely a travesty that Sony let them make this film I think people should realise that the film shouldn't any way taint your memory of the game. That's like saying you don't like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat as much because of their crappy movies.

The worst thing would be if people don't go and play the game because of the movie, now that would just be awful.
