Shadows 2: Perfidia is a remastered and expanded (and commercial)version of its prequel Shadows 2 and 1. All of those games had been made by an indie game developer by the nickname 'MrCiastku". The prequels had been published as freeware, on gaming platform called Game Jolt. It's worthy to note that the game developer, at the time of development, had been 15 years old. Shadows 2: Perfidia was his first commercial release and received major spotlight from various YouTubers, as short, horror games had been growing in popularity at that time. The game had been made on Unity game engine and various free assets. Being simplistic, for a typical survival horror - the game achieved a very positive score and reviews on Steam 's storefront and sold over 50 000 worldwide, with 4390 concurrent players being its all-time peak.

Gameplay of Shadows 2: Perfidia is a typical survival-horror from First Person Perspective. The Player's Character has no means of fighting his adversaries and dangers can only be avoided by running away or by hiding. Despite being a rather linear experience - Shadows 2: Perfidia features some degree of randomization as some number of events and occurrences are chance-based and might not be experienced during just one playthrough, which adds a bit of replayability to the game.

The game takes place in a typical office in an unnamed building and location. The game communicates with the player by stranded notes, scattered around the building. Collecting those notes uncovers mysterious, paranormal happening that is taking place. The game has two characters, each telling the story from a different angle. Besides collecting stray notes, left in various (often very hidden) locations, part of the gameplay is based around finding batteries for the Player's Character flashlight. The flashlight is often crucial to solving many puzzles or avoiding enemies hiding in dark corridors. Interacting with environment is very limited to pushing/pulling small objects and crates and opening/closing doors.

The gameplay is separated into each floor of the building and progress is being saved only upon reaching the floor's exist, the elevator. In case of Player's Characters death - the player must venture the whole floor again. The difficulty setting raises with each successfully traversed floor.
