Devil Survivor: The Game Able to Topple (This Reviewer's) Doubts 5

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is something which, by all superficial accounts, shouldn't be for me at all. While I've absolutely adored some installments in the venerable RPG franchise, more often than not, I've typically been at least apathetic towards games bearing that series' name, if not outright disliking or loathing them. Throw in the fact that this game is a strategy RPG, a genre I find to be usually too inaccessible to me, and you have a game which I should probably be despising. S...

With the amount of death going around lately, it’s probably gotten more than a few people pondering their own mortality. But what would you do if you could see how long you have left before you die? Though it’s a question seemingly ripped from a press release, the ways you can choose to answer it make Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor deliver on its premise, while mostly living up and sometimes exceeding franchise expectations. Assets alone don't make a person interesting.Devil Survivor's plot,...

    It's Jack Frost, Ho! 0

It seems to me that Atlus owes Giantbomb.com a great big "thank you." Ever since Jeff and Vinny began the Persona 4 Endurance Run, I've found myself entranced by their virtual exploits. I know of several people who have gone out and purchased Atlas products solely because of the ER, and I am happy to say that I now rank among them. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor would have totally flown under my radar if not for my newly developed obsession with all things SMT, and that would have been quite...

TEAM!Shin Megami Tensei Finally Makes it's way onto the DS, in the form of a DS, That summons all of your favorite demons. I'd like to think that this game is incredibly awesome, But really, I was a Fan of the Series Starting with Nocturne and the Persona series became different with 3 and 4, that as neat as they are, ain't what they used to be.That being said Devil Survivor is what happens When you've really just played the same game over and over again.(I'm going to have a beef with this game)...

A Game That Not Only Survives, it Excells 2

The only other SMT games I've played so far have been Persona 3 and 4, both of which I was a huge fan of. So when I picked up Devil Survivor I was both excited and hesitant. Well luckily my excitement was rewarded, and my doubts were pushed aside. Devil Suvivor has a powerful story and colorful cast of characters to match its SMT brothers, but is also unique enough that it is its own game experience. Demon summoning is just one of the features on the new DS.Let's begin with what in my opinion i...

Surprisingly solid strategy RPG with a great deal of depth 0

Devil Survivor was something of an impulse purchase for me, and surprisingly, it's a purchase that really paid off.  Devil Survivor is an RPG with turn-based strategy elements, and has a lot to offer gamers with its depth and replayability.GRAPHICS & SOUNDDevil Survivor is pretty much a meat-and-potatoes game when it comes to graphics.  There aren't any flashy effects or cutscenes, but what's here is solid.  The character portraits are well drawn, the menus and combat screens are easy on the...

Should you level up to save Tokyo? I don't see why not. 0

I bought a DS in the fall of 2009 to play Scribblenauts, but it turned out that I've spent most of my time on the system since then playing Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor.  It's a great game that is easy to play in either long or short bursts, making it perfect for a handheld system.  Like so many others on this site, I had my interest in the Shin Megami Tensei series piqued by the Persona 4 Endurance Run.   I had very little experience playing RPGs before playing Devil Survivor, unless you ...

    SMT: Devil Survivor Review 0

Another entry into the long-running and highly-respected Shin Megami Tensei series, Devil Survivor from Atlus brings the same kind of quality fans expect, condensed down into a much smaller package-the only real difference? Instead of being the expected role-playing game like its predecessors, the developers took a left turn into new territory and crafted a uniquely hybrid strategy RPG instead.Set in an alternate version of Tokyo, the game begins by locking down the entire city after a mysteriou...

Lacking the Charm and Variety of other Shin Megami Tensei titles 0

I am a huge fan of Persona 3 and 4.  While I knew this game was a strategy title going in, I was also aware that the battle system closely resembled the Persona titles.  Unfortunately, I found the story and dialogue to be monotonous and boring, and resorted to clicking through the endless pages of text after a couple of hours.  The battles had a horrible way of making my party characters feel underpowered and largely ineffective.  By limiting each character to 3 techniques, many of the game's ab...

Condensed hybrid that stands out from the crowd. 0

Shin Megami Tensei (SMT) titles have quite the reputation: demons, angels, science, religion, deep character and story development and oh yes, being unapologetically difficult. Devil Survivor not only manages to squeeze the SMT experience onto the DS but successfully with a unique tactical RPG hybrid system. Fusing with this departure in gameplay style is an interesting story which is gripping to the end. The fates of teenage Japanese youngsters are par the course in JRPGs but this addictive tac...

    Surviving the Demon Outbreak 0

The government has locked down Tokyo that's run down with demons running amok and humans trapped inside losing hope. Your only hope is to find out how to drive all demons away before Tokyo succumbs to either being overrun by demons, or by government intervention. Using your COMP to manage demons, the trust of your friends and other notable people along the way, and ultimately, your wit, can you manage to change the fate of Tokyo before time runs out?Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is a strate...
