So I'm on my second playthrough in Magatsu Mandala World 1, I come to a chest, it warns me not to open it, so naturally I do and who should come bursting forth but my ol' buddy from Persona 3 the f'ing REAPER! One vanish ball later, I was safe. Is this random or is he always in this chest in this spot?

Don't Fear the Reaper
50?! I'm almost to 80, I should've tangled with him. I just remember him being lvl 99 in p3 and assumed that was still the case so I dashed since I hadn't saved for at least an hour.
Thanks for all the heads ups!
Yeah, you'll whoop his ass at this point. Just make sure you can void light and dark.
He drops the ultimate weapons for the characters and after you get all them, Godly Robes, which everyone can equip and give +10 to all stats. He also can randomly drop the Omnipotent Orbs, which void all but Almighty.
Oh snap, really? I never bothered to level high enough to fight him in P3. Maybe I should start playing my New Game+ P4 file...
Is it in place of those chests that started appearing around the December dungeon that would take some of your HP or SP? Because those suuuuuuuuuucked.
It's always a random chest. He can appear in many of the dungeons, and Magatsu Inaba is where he can appear the most. I've faced him so many times, because he's way easier than his Persona 3 counterpart. Worth getting all the characters' ultimate weapons.
He's not as tough as he is in P3, and his Mind Charge + Megidola is a bitch to get through. He'll also cast some one-hit dark/light spells. Make sure you have a persona that has null light/dark and someone who can cast Marakukaja ocassionally. Make sure you have some Homonculus or a lot of Revival Beads/Balm of Life in case you mess up and then he casts a light/dark spell on everybody.
You can get Omnipotent Orb lots of times I think. I've gotten 4 so far, and I think he can drop more for everyone.
Death is a pretty hard monster to fight since he has so many powerful attacks. Best to fight him at levels 50 (If your risky) to 80.
I'm pretty sure he'd have handed me my ass on a platter if I tried him at lvl 50 (unless he scales?) cause he scanned as 85 and I basically went through all my SP fighting him.
The Reaper usually appears on Magatsu Inaba and Mandala, He is in the Death arcana lvl 75 he always nullifies you element resistance, this is really easy if Yukiko was not weak to ice, cause if you have Yukiko in your party it's gonna keep killing her with Bufudyne, i suggest you bring a persona with Spirit Drain Megidola or Megidolaon and Mindcharge makesure you are about level 70 but if you are a great player the reaper is easy on level 64..... He also has Mahamaon and Hamaon. he also has an attack that drains 30 of your life....... After defeating him, you will have MC's ultimate weapon, and if you defeat him again you will get the weapon of the Second character in your aprty and so on and so forth.
Does he show up in Izanami's dungeon? Cause it seems like going back to a place where I'll be getting nil XP to hunt an enemy that may never show up would be a waste of time if I can just find him while I'm grinding up.
@Eirikr:
I gave it a go, but only got 1250 xp, I'm getting more from the regular enemies...plus I got Chie's weapon and I don't really have another physical attacker.
Another point: is there any way to level up more effectively? Cause I've been grinding for almost an hour and have gained 0 levels. I'm trying to get up to 93 so I can get the final level Strength persona, but I'm only at 85.
It's best just to run around on the various Magatsu floors while beating enemies as quickly as possible. The first floor will give you the relative least amount of EXP, but the enemies there are little threat and you'll be able to beat them quickly. It shouldn't really take more than 15-20 minutes to go up a level, if that.
Also, do it solo if you haven't been for the maximum EXP. The King trick isn't going to be much help to you at this point.
The first damn chest I opened on the new game +, was the reaper.
You know I used that vanish ball as soon as he appeared.
That is HILARIOUS and to quote the Endurance Run: "Your mother! VANISH BALL!"
@Eirikr:
You're my kinda people, Eirikr, thanks for the advice.
