    Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is a role-playing game developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation 2. It is chronologically the fifth installment in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series. Like its predecessor, its gameplay combines a traditional role-playing game with elements of a social simulation. Its critical and commercial success spawned a sizable media empire, including several spinoff titles.

    My R1 is on the fritz and I don't have an extra controller and only enough money to buy Persona 4. Will I get by with an iffy R1.

    It helps with navigating menus and general UI if I remember the ER

    My X-button is on the fritz and I don't have an extra controller and only enough money to buy Persona 4. Will I get by with an iffy X-button.

    You don't actually need R1 for anything, so you won't have any issues playing without it. It's mostly just used as a shortcut for seeing whose turn it is to act next in a battle.
