So we have established that Atlus put Persona 4 on the PS2 over the PS3 becuse of the larger platform base. So wouldn't it make sense that they put P5 on the Xbox 360 becusae there are Significatly more 360 than PS3s out there? I'm a 360 owner and I would love to see one of my favorite franchises move onto my favorite system.
EDIT: Crap screwed up the title!
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Game » consists of 5 releases. Released Jul 10, 2008
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is a role-playing game developed and published by Atlus for the PlayStation 2. It is chronologically the fifth installment in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series. Like its predecessor, its gameplay combines a traditional role-playing game with elements of a social simulation. Its critical and commercial success spawned a sizable media empire, including several spinoff titles.
What is the likeness of P5 being on the Xbox 360?
it could be both but all i've seen is that its going to be on ps3 (that was way back in 06 i think though)
Pro:
Giant installbase .
Development cost low.
Contra:
The games that truely perform well are mostly Nitendo first party games, others tend to sell lackluster.
The gameplay of Persona doesn't lend itself to the Wiimote controll as it's pretty old school, which often enough ends up in low sales as well.
XBoX360:
Pro:
MS tries desperately to get a foothold on the JP market and pays often for it.
Contra:
The only market it has a lead over it's HD competitor Sony is in the US
It's installbase is mostly interested in FPS, TPS and sometimes WRPGs (some JRPGs that started out as 360 exclusive ended up on the PS3 to get half way decent sales, because even MS money couldn't cover the production costs)
PS3
Pro:
Good installbase in JP and EU (about to outsell the 360 there this year)
Installbase tends to buy JRPGs or Japanese Games (well the Japanese installbase atleast XD)
Contra:
Still third place WW
Sales tend to be slow on the PS3 even when they end up good (see UC2)
Unpredictable Sony PR (sometimes awesome, sometimes horrible, never in between)
My opinion: If MS pays the cash it might be a multiplatform game. Chances are that the PS2 might even see a P5 release in the end. The Wii might seem tempting, but the Persona series has it's ties to the Playstation and JP PS3 owners do have some buying power (see Yakuza 3). The graphics were never important in Persona games, so I wouldn't mind a multiplatform release, but I wouldn't see a reason to release it on the 360 (doesn't seem worth it).
As much as I would like for it to come out on the 360, I'm pretty sure it'll stay a Sony exclusive. I would totally buy it for the 360 if it did come out for it and I didn't have a PS3 yet.
I'd say it's likely to be a PS3 exclusive. It seems like the kind of game that the average 360 owner wouldn't know or care about. This a generalization of course, but the PS3 market in Japan is much stronger, and American 360 owners cover a wide range over people, many of whom only play games like Madden and Gears.

The 360 sells like shit in Japan, so I don't think it's especially likely. Now, if the game is for the PS3, there's some chance they might port it to the 360, but the odds of it being developed for the 360 initially? I'd put those at about zero. This is a series that does most of its sales in Japan. so the fact that there are more 360s in the US really has no bearing on it.
" i could see it coming out on the ps3 exclusively in japan but multiplatform elsewhere. ala - final fantasy 13. "I can't see Atlus Japan making an XBox 360 version solely to be localized for the US market. It'll either be a PS3 exclusive or multiplatform, but it's not going to pull a FF XIII and be both.
" @jadeskye said:i think you underestimate the push japanese developers are making for the world market. atlus in particular has a pretty recent track record of this." i could see it coming out on the ps3 exclusively in japan but multiplatform elsewhere. ala - final fantasy 13. I think it'll be PS3 exclusive but only because it's very Japanese and they might try something else for 360. If it does come to 360 it'll probably be "geared towards western markets". Let's say it'll take place in an all-girls or all-guys (or both) Catholic high school. Maybe set in Europe, maybe north-eastern US/Canada.
But they may be putting Persona to rest for a bit and focus on other MegaTen games.
While Atlus have been good to the few American fans out there, but I don't think they'd go through the trouble of putting it on the 360. If you haven't noticed; JRPG's have always been a fiasco on the 360. As far as I know, Persona is pretty much a Sony exclusive and the PS2 is dying so it's logical to conclude that they would release the game on the PS3. However, I cannot say for sure, all we can do is wait.

What a stupid thing to say. There are many JRPGs on the Xbox 360 that aren't "geared towards western markets"
Considering how Japanese of a game Persona is, I'd declare it lunacy to expect it to come anywhere near the 360. The 360 may be popular in the US, but everywhere else in the world, the PS3 is on top. And as for being multiplatform... I don't think Atlus has the kind of budget needed to make a niche JRPG for two platforms. Sorry for pooping all over your dreams but it looks like Persona 5 will absolutely positively be a PS3 game.
That's not really correct. In Europe, the 360 and PS3 are pretty even at the moment. Some countries have more 360s and others more PS3s. In Japan, the PS3 destroys the 360." As for Persona 5, I could see it coming out on 360 because, as most of you probably already know, it is pretty easy to port a PS3 game to a 360, so why not?
That's not really correct either... The PS3 has always been infamous for being difficult to code multiplats for. PC/360 are the platforms that are easiest to port between, but the PS3 has an entirely different architecture.
I doubt it Persona is a very very very niche series here, p4 got alot of coverage here but still doesn't detract from the fact the series does not get alot of coverage here It will stay a Sony or nintendo game for a long time over here.

"Developers such as LucasArts and Criterion have come out and said it's much easier to port from PS3 to 360. The opposite not so much. FFXIII was ported over pretty late in the development cycle and looks like a pretty solid port for the most part.
Are there any Atlus that have actually been releasd on the 360?
EDIT: There are a few, but nothing big. (I of course mean "big" in the context of Atlus products.)
Unless Atlus gets some moolah from Microsoft for exclusivity, I don't see any big hurdles that they could encounter during the development.
Plus, they make games for both PS2, PSP and DS (Of the SMT variety), so they don't have a particular brand loyalty. However, I would like to play it on the PS3 - it'd just feel right.
Humongous.
The Japanese game market is still slowly dying and P4 sold very well here in Europe. They'd be fools not too target a worldwide audience. Especially with the ever growing weeaboo crowd which would gobble it up.
Not to mention the sheer amount of so called third party exclusives going multiplat.
Remember that the entire Shin Megami Tensei franchise has never been a Sony exclusive.
The difference between console install bases isn't that drastically different anymore. PS3 has pretty much caught up to the 360.
"Keep in mind that none of those are actually Atlus games. There have been games that Atlus USA has released on the 360 (and PS3) in the US, but Atlus hasn't actually developed any games for the 360 or PS3 (at least that we know of; there have plenty of rumors about games in development). They've developed for the DS and PSP, and Trauma Center games on the Wii, but none on the HD systems. Are there any Atlus that have actually been releasd on the 360?
"
EDIT: There are a few, but nothing big. (I of course mean "big" in the context of Atlus products.)
Most likely PS3 to be honest. From what we can tell the PS3 fanbase support JRPGs more than the 360 fanbase. This is especially true because of the sales in Japan. Furthermore due to the content of a SMT game I doubt they'll find much success on the Wii due to the demographic it's painted for itself and the fact that the JRPGs on the system have all bombed. Hell didn't the 1-year old port of Tales of Vesperia outsell the new Tales game on the Wii/DS?
" Maybe this is one series Sony will lock down and pay for it. "Not likely at all. The Persona series, despite its recent bursts of popularity with P3 and P4, are still very niche games that don't pull nearly the sales numbers that a game like a Final Fantasy does. Sony wouldn't find it worth the money to make it exclusive.
Demon's Souls was made by From with money from Sony, Persona was a remake for a handheld and P4 was made using the P3 engine which was developed for the only console that made sense at the time. None of that tells us anything. Mega Ten games show up on Nintendo platforms all the time for example..
The US will likely account for about 40% of projected P5 sales and the 360 still has like a 10m unit lead in the US over the PS3 so assuming a small port cost no reason for it not to be ported over.
" Demon Souls PS3 exclusive Persona PSP Psp exclusive Persona 4 PS2 exclusive Atlus has never made an xbox game ever "Shin Megami Tensei Nine. Sure it wasn't developed by Atlus, but Atlus hasn't developed any PS3 games yet either.
I'd say there's a good chance of it being multiplatform.
Even developers like Insomniac seem to be going multiplatform. Unless you're being heavily backed by one of the big three, it's very unlikely we'll see many exclusives in the future. Especially for a somewhat niché game that's going to need to pull as many sales as possible. The Japanese may not buy it on the 360, even if it were somehow exclusive. But everywhere else in the world the 360 has a big enough market for a game like this.
If it does go on 360/PS3, It'll be the first JRPG I buy for it. Although, it just doesn't seem like it'll happen ATM.
The points you make seem to point towards a Wii release more than anything. Which might be smart, considering its platform base in Japan." Also can't forget the last two SMT games both came out for the DS (Devil Survivor and Strange Journey)
